I was wondering if this car is very rare or not?..no pictures but just wondering if it would be worth the expense to restore...As far as value I know you can't judge with out photo's..

well as far as it being rare....somewhere around 1200 built, drops to 625 or so if it has the ZL2 option. rare? IMO yes:yes: I may be biased though.

value? again IMO any drivable original BB car is worth 18-20K 4speed adds to that. I have mine insured for 23K & it's unrestored.

My information shows 1,161 4-speed and 1,852 automatic hardtops. It also shows 27 4-speed and 43 automatic convertibles were built with the 454 for 1972 model year. If it is all there and the body is not terribly rust, it is probably worth restoring. It would be near impossible to tell for sure unless you post pictures. For 1972 models, the fifth digit of the VIN# verifies the engine. If your's is a "W", you have proof that it was a 454 car. This would also prove that the car is an original SS since the 454 was only available in the SS cars.

Keep in mind a couple of things. The purchase price plus the resto cost of labor and cost of materials is usually twice what you originally think.

With that said, if you do buy the car, make sure it is all there. When you start buying correct parts, the price of the resto goes up quickly.

If you are paying someone to restore a rusty car, you will probably spend more money than what it is worth, depending on the original cost and the parts you need to buy.

If you pay someone $50-70 per hour and they spend (on average) 700-800 hours, you will spend $35,000-56,000, just for the labor.

I agree with you Dan. Do you own the car or thinking about buying?

Unless you plan to do the work yourself, or can't pay all at once or really want THAT specific car, then its probably less expensive to buy one already finished... If you pay someone else, more than likely its going to cost more than it will be worth (plus, you can't enjoy driving it for several years probably)...

Would it have to have a 12 bolt or 10 bolt rear?
