Hi, I just ordered new chrome sppedometer bezel, radio faceplate bezel, and glove box fascia chrome from OPGI for my 67 Chevelle. What is the easiest way to replace these three pieces? I was looking at my dash a little while ago, and it didn't seem obvious how to replace the trim. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Remove the four bolts under the dash, two each side, possilbly a center position also. Remove two bolts holding steering column in place. Remove screws from side of dash, one each side. Remove seven screws holding dash pad in place and roll dash on to steering column (cover with a towel to protect the dash.
Remove the seven screws holdinf the speedo in place and remove from the front. Watch wire positions for replacement. . Remove glove box bezel nut and lock. Remove five screws from back of facia and replace. Radio bezel is basically removing the radio knobs and retaining nuts. Couple hours work.

Garry, Thanks for your help. I was hoping it would be easier :) But I will follow your directions to a T. Does the whole dash come forward, where I have to disconnect wires to the speedo, gas gauge, etc? Thanks, sorry for the questions, I have just never dealt with a 67 before.

You should be able to put your speedo bezel on without disconnecting everything. There are additional screws holding the bezel to the instrument panel. You'll se them. Just take your time. I supported the passenger side of my dash with a cardboard box. Easier with help of course but you can do it.

There is NO easy way! Just be very careful you don't scratch the new speedometer beezel installing it. I scratched mine a number of years ago, installing it.

Shawn, call me if you need some help. Sounds pretty involved but I can offer a couple extra hands if you need them.

Mike, Thanks a million. I may take you up on that. Some of these things can be frustrating to do, especially when you have to figure out how to get everything back together again right. I'll let you know when I do it. I have company this weekend, but probably next weekend or something like that.

I set a couple milk crates on the floor boards with some old pillows on them when I pull the dash in my 67. It gives you a place to rest the assembly on if your working alone.

Will it be a pain to replace these trim pieces with just un bolting the dash and pulling it forward about a foot and resting it on the steering column, or do I need to take it completely off?

Savage,

That is all I did was roll it forward onto the column with padding on the column and support on the passenger side. You can do it.

Garry, I was looking at the steering column, and there appears to be 4 smaller bolts on a small plate underneath the steering column, but a larger plate with two much larger bolts a little further down, are those the ones that you are talking about removing?

While your in there, you might want to change the light bulbs while they are accessible.

Shawn,

if it will help you any with this task, i have a complete 67 dash that i removed from a wagon years ago that still has all the bezels and etc. on it.
it may help you see how it all goes together or comes apart.

i am in knightdale if you want to see it or borrow it..

Should be two bolts under the dash attaching the column, leave the four attached

That is a good point, where can I find a list of the bulbs that I would need? I would imagine most of these bulbs are original to the car

Marshall, Thanks I may take you up on that offer, as I have never taken a 67 dash apart. I may enlist the help of Mike as well, since he was generous :) It sounds like 2 sets of hands would be good for this job anyways

Its not hard to remove but when I got that far with mine I just went ahead and removed completley, repainted the metal, cleaned all the dash parts, removed the dust from the turn signal and other color lensed, replaced all the light bulbs and such. Made a huge amount of difference in the dash lights at night and made the dash look really great. I removed and reinstalled by myself, but would go much faster and better with a helper. Jb
