I have a XE268 and just installed a voodoo 268 in a buddys motor. My XE sounds a little more lumpy. I have more compression and better exhaust tho.... I believe the voodoo has more power with less valve train noise.

I think the xe has 110 lsa while the voodoo is on a 112, so i figure the xe might be a bit more lumpy. Either way if you want it to sound lumpy just set your ilde as low as it will go without stalling, put your vacuum advance on ported and run less initial timing.

the Voodoo 268 is on a 110 LCA:yes:
& the Voodoo 268 makes more power than the XE.....they sound about the same IMO but the Voodoo is MUCH quieter at the valvetrain, no valve slamming closed noise. tick, tick, tick. The XE sounds like a demonized typewriter!:D

I just fired up a fresh 427 last week that had the Comp XE268
I am not a fan of Comp nor their QC but I have to say the cam sounded nice out of the tailpipes. Specs where 222/230 @ .050 110 LSA .515/.520 I believe. Had a faint sewing machine sound going too.Break in went nice and smooth with no drama.Cam works well in a heavy,1968 427 powered SS Impala with an auto, stock covertor and 3.31 gears

I figure that Harold did a good job for Holley/Lunati when he designed the VooDoo line for them..

I have the comp XE 268 and did cam breakin a few months ago. I bought this cam setup back in 1998 when they first came out but never used it until this year.

I 've adjusted everything (3) times and the cam does go tick, tick, tick. It really sounds like a soild lifter in some ways. Is this the sewing machine sound you guys are talking about? explain more....

BTW this cam does have a nice sound at the tail pipes at idle.

I'm second guessing myself now and ready to remove for a roller with all these oil issues. Only thing is i need to find a roller to match the spring setup of the comp 268.

My xe-262 makes a noticable sewing machine type sound, its sort of like a rolling tick. From what I can tell it is pretty much normal for the XE series.

yes that is the sewing machine sound.
It is actually the sound of the valves being slammed closed very quickly.
The difference with the Voodoo cam is that that valves open quickly but slow down a little during closing keeping the valvetrain noise down.
I'm pretty sure it's easier on the valves/seats too.

I found this on another thread from the man that designed the Voodoo series of cams.

I don't remember the exact BHP numbers made during the Holley dyno series, but the 268 VooDoo made 28 BHP more than the 268 Xtreme Energy.
A 355 with 10.25:1, 'street'-ported 292 heads with 2.06/1.60 valves, using the old UD 288/296H8, a victor jr and 750 Holley made 415 BHP on a very conservative dyno. On some dynos you could add about 50-60 BHP. I am sure the 268 VooDoo would make 10 or 15 BHP less......

I notice these cams seem to make this noise when the engine is up to normal temp.they do not seem to be noisy cold
