You have to weld them to the floor but WAIT until you've placed the bucket correctly and mount the seat belts before you weld them down or guaranteed you will put them too far outward (ask how I know!). IIRC the outer back bucket bolthole, lines up with the inner back floor bolt hole. God, thats confusing but it'll make sense when you are looking at it.

I thank you for the help. Yes Im going from bench to buckets. Shouldnt there be more than just two brackets? Do they go across the back? Does each seat get or require only one bracket? Kinda confused.

Go to www.ss396.com and check out their seat brackets for your car. I just did the same thing to my 67 chevelle and they worked great. The two long brackets go closet to the center of the car for each seat. The little short bracket goes to the front left of the drivers seat and the other to the front right of the passenger seat. The only factory holes in your floorboards you will use is for the rear left of the drivers and rear right of the passenger seat. If you look where you took out the bench seat the rear brackets will have two holes in the floorboards. For the drivers seat set the seat in the car so the drivers seat left rear bracket is over the SECOND hole in the floorboards

The hole closest to the center of the car. Do the passenger seat the same way except the right rear bracket will get bolted to the second hole in. You need to use that second hole in to keep the seat belt retractor from rubbing the seat. Put your console where it should be then square up the seats with it. Then mark the floorboards where the new brackets need to be welded.Double check all measurments after the brackets are tack welded down because you dont want to bolt the seats in and have one or both seats sitting there not looking straight out the windshield. Good luck and have fun. Take your time and dont get in a hurry.
