Buying cragar dragstar rims with 28 x 9" m/t slicks for my 5 speed nova and looks like clearance between sidewall and 3 pack leafspring is only 1/4". Thinking this is too close at track and wondering if my better bet is to add 1/4" spacers or grind clearance off sides of springs 1/4"??? Springs are currently 2.5" wide. Any opinions or recommendations on this would be greatly appreciated as always. Car will run 12.0 at 111mph!! THANKS MUCH , AL

Don't grind the springs, you could stress and crack the springs. You can actually order narrower springs for your nova through a good spring shop. I heard the maximum for a wheel spacer is 3/16". Make sure it is a good quality spacer or it can crack, may not run in balance, and/or warp from what I hear. To me, they are band-aids, just like extra long spring shackles and crimp-together wires.

AL; If you do end up with 1/4" clearance, you should be just fine.At high speed the cross section will shrink,if anything. You'd have to be cornering at 1g or more to touch, and then it would only scuff the tire. But I doubt the springs would bow 1/4" laterally over the entire length, let alone in the 22-24" area at your sidewalls.
