: What oil pan for 496?

I did a search and didn't come up with any definitive answers so any help would be appreciated. I have a 70 Elky that as you know is the same as the Chevelle for most goodies. I am in the final assembly stages of my new 496 motor and need to chose an oil pan. I like the idea of additional oil, I like ground clearance but I don't know what kind of problems my arise from a side kick out. I do have headers and a Tilton mini starter. What are you using that fits and doesn't have any problems with (or problems that you can live with). A part # would be greatly helpful. I have been looking at the Moroso stuff but not sure which one. Is there a better one to use?

20451 works good in a 67. Should think there's plenty of clearance for a 4.25" crank.

have the moroso 20401 on my 427 bbc with 2inch headers and scatter shield in a 70ss chevelle and can not get the oil filter off with out loosening the driverside header and unbolting the collector, then while pulling header away from oilpan there is just enough room to pull the oil filter out. smaller headers or no scatter shield and i might not have a problem

I run a Milodon #30950 7qt pan in my '70...no problem with clearence of a 4.25" crank.
Even the long oil filter fits fine with Hooker 2 1/8" Super Comps.

Check out "Canton " they make some real good quality pans at fair prices I have a kick out pan in my 66 that clears my headers ans starter with no filter removal issues ....comes with built in crank scraper and notched for stroker cranks

CAnton's are very nice indeed. A stock look and $$ led me to the Moroso pan.

Bill, man, I sure wish we could run our " day 2 " cars against one another at the track! I don't know who'd win( probably the SR motor!), but it would be a swell race!

Thanks for all the replys, I actaully have access to a 20403 which is the same as the 20401 except that is comes with a crank scraper and windage tray. I can get it for trading a couple of parts I have laying around so the cost is perfect. I was looking at it and it looked like the sump was too far forward to clear the cross member but if Mechcanic427 is running the 20401 I may try it but if it doesn't work I will look at the Milodon and Canton Pans. Just don't want to pull the motor out due to not asking questions.
