i need a new more modern grind. new shortblock will be goin together. heres the cars specs.

355, vortec heads with lt4 hot spring upgrade for up to .525 lift, 10:1 comp, performer rpm intake, 750 holley (currently VS but soon to be DP) full msd ignition, 3500 tight BTE converter, 373 gears, 28x12.50r15 et streets. all in a 3350 lbs '72 chevelle. also will be sprayed with up to 150 hp shot of n20.

i need a new cam to go with this. preferably at or less than .520 lift.

i dont care about idle quality or street drivability. lookin for mid 12s NA.

The XE274H would get you in the 12's, almost an identical build to my sons, cept his is in a 81 pickup that weighs 3860 and as aerodynamic as a brick,,,but runs 13.50's all day long with less stall and 1.95 60ft times if he's lucky. You'd probably need to go a little bigger and go solid to get the results you're looking for.

Use the Lunati 301B3LUN, 288/296 at the seat(.0045"), 231/239 at .050, .485/.597 valve lift (Use 1.6s on the intake for .517"...), and 108 LSA. Almost all cars using this cam run low- to mid-12s, and some get into the 11s. A number of people using this cam are Team Chevelle members.

Why so much variance in the lift Harold? Would it not be better just to grind that lift into the cam?Is it a duration deal? is it solid or hydraulic? and what do you think of Lunati's microlube hydraulic lifters? TIA

The lift is actually .507 on the exh.
It`s a hyd cam and it worked good for our 406 only we put it on a 110 sep.
I`m putting that cam in 330 hp crate motor on a 108 but with Rhoades lifters.

UDHarold, how will that cam work in a 10:1 383 with 4.10 gears and 3000/3200 stall?

And what were the .200" duration numbers for the SBC 288/296 solid FT?

Thx!

What were the specs on your old cam? Is that the same cam you were running 13.10s? Is it roller or hydraulic? Just curious because I want my 71 to run low 13s or high 12s. Right now i'm running 8.80@79mph on the 1/8 mile, and roughly 13.73s accroding to my virtual engine dyno. I've got a 388ci, 9.5 C/R, and a cam with .488" lift, don't know the duration and the rest of the specs, Performer RPM, and a Holley 750 VS.

If you are going to spray it alot. UD harolds cams split duration makes sense. For the cam guru's out there would a 108 LSA for a 150 shot be a little narrow? Or would a 112-114 work better(same specs otherwise) .

no the spray wont be used alot. my cam thats in the car now is a performer rpm cam with about 9.5:1 compression. harold, how do i order this cam? just call up lunati? also whats the price?

Just call up Lunati and order it. I have been selling hydraulics at $149.44, and solids at $165.44. Others there may charge the $165.44 for every 'UDHarold' solid or hydraulic.
To all those who have tried to call me Monday or Tuesday, I haven't been there. Sunday afternoon I was pulling on a Black Locust that I had cut down, and the limb broke, sending all 230 lbs of me flat on my back, HARD..... I've been too sore to do anything.....
I should be back in Wednesday....
