I have heard that a boost refrenced mechanical fuel pump is only suffient to about 550 HP. But what about boost refrencing the carter 172, with a boost refrenced regulator. This would be cheaper than a comparable electric and no wiring in relays and such. Does any one see a problem with this in a blowthrough supercharged 496?

How do you "boost reference" a mechanical fuel pump?

To externally reference a mechanical pump you need to plug the vent in the chamber above the diaphraghm, add a fitting to the same chamber and plumb it to your reference point.

My guess is that its not enough to supply the motor @ fully boggie. I dont think it has enough poop. 2 issues, the first is that they can only pull soo much fuel & they are suckers not pushers so, I would guess that it would be on the edge, if not insufficient. IMO, its worth the extra time & bucks to go completly electric. My motto is: "you cant have too much fuel pump or too much tire".
