I am looking at gaining some compression for power. How much can you mill a 72cc head?. Am I wasting my time or should I look for 64cc heads?. I thought if you mill too much your intake needs to be milled as well. Thanks graemlins/clonk.gif

There's alot more to head selection than the chamber ccs. Some heads aren't worth doing anything at all too; some are. If they're some kind of good heads like Darts or something, ometimes other people need the other size chambers, and you can sell/trade them and get the right ones, for not much more money than hacking on a set of the wrong ones.

"Rule of thumb" for a typical stock SBC bathtub type chamber, is .006" per cc of milling if you mill them straight, and a little more like .008" if you angle-mill them, but it varies from one casting to another. So to get from 72 to 64 cc, you'd have to cut ALOT of metal off of them... around .040" - .050". Enough that you'd have to do something with the intake too.

What heads have you got?

I don't have any heads yet. I have been looking on ebay at some, It just seems like the 72cc heads are cheaper and easier to find. From what I'm gathering, I need a 64cc for compression and 180cc for torque.

on a 350 (or smaller) yes. a 383 will get decent compression with the 72cc heads.
