I just won a certificate for a $350 custom exhaust set up from a local shop, and I don't know what I should do... right now have 2.25" pipe with dual Flowmaster 40 Series, and I want to do something extremely loud and aggressive. Any suggestions? My cousin has an LT1 65 Malibu SS and He is gonna put the Dynomax race bullets on it, I was thinking something like that...

Run 3" headpipes with your current mufflers and 2.5" tailpipes... it will sound noticeably louder and deeper. Have them bump the inlets up on the mufflers to fit. And this exhaust will handle pretty much any performance mods or future bigger engine swaps too.

I have 2.25'' pipes now and I was thinking of putting cutouts on but the shop said I had to purchase the cutouts first then he would install them

3" collectors, 3" pipe, no x-pipe, 3" Dynomax tubes, turned out in front of the rear tires.

Thats what I was thinking, now I have 2.25'' pipe dumped before the axle andI might just cut it short, and ru n like 2 feet of pipe then muffler then have it turned out right before the rear tire with a sick looking tip.

Dude is your chevelle a true Yenko? and do you want to trade...?

"Local shop" probably means crush-bent pipes instead of mandrel-bent.

What you should do is sell the certificate to someone with a grocery-getter; then use the money for something you need.

you could also see if they can order you some headers if you don't have them all ready

Headers are first for sure. Dont go over 2 1/2 unless your motor is sick. Run a H or X pipe. Flowtech #BIG-53026FLT are nice dumps. Old school 40 series are very nice! The thicker & longer the tip the louder your car will be.

Why is that?, I thought the shorter the pipe the louder it would be... do explain

I was asuming that this is a street car, you have neighbors and local coppers with nothing to do. Sure you could run 3 inch off the headers, 2 feet into flowmasters, and kick em out the side. It will be loud as all hell. But I dont think you'll like it. If you let your exh build some back pressure through a nice mirror sys your street car will not only be loud, but it will help the power band too. Doesn't sound like you have a 800 hp mouse in your ride that will benifet from open headers. You need do design your sys around what you have or plan to have soon. The correct tip choice will give you the sound your looking for. The thicker the tip the louder it is. The longer the tip the more space it has to resonate and give you a deeper tone. Think about it. Your exh comes down evenly through a mirror sys, starts building up pressure going through the flowmasters, then forced out fast into a larger area (like a tunnel) with a exit! A rolled edge amplifies it even more. Magnaflow #35114 3 1/2 inch, 18 inches long with a rolled exit will give you a real deep tone with your flowmasters and some 2 1/2 pipes. These will fit nice under a A body with factory bent tail pipes. Add a nice cam to the mix, and your car will sound nasty. And it will be plenty loud. I did exh for 5 years and a lot of hotrods came through the shop. I've experimented with lots of applications, and have seen the results. By the way mandrell bent pipes are very nice if you can afford them. And remember............... Loud pipes save lives!
