Hey guys, I don't know if you caught my prevous post on finding some metal in my oil filter, but I thought I would go ahead and pull the valve covers to check the lifter rotation..

Well, so far so good, the passenger side is OK, but I still need to pull the driver side, wish me luck..

My question is, is it possible to re use cork valve cover gaskets, I've never tryed, and don't want to end up spewing oil all over the hot motor on my way to the Hudson show..

TIA,
Scott

Scott, I have had my valve covers off so many times I can't remember. The cork gaskets still seal no problem

I would look at their condition and if they appear to be in good shape reuse them with silicon.

Scott, mine have been off many times, and as long as they dont tear when I remove them, I just put them back on.....never had a leak either, like Jerry says. I always seal them to the valve covers the first time, so they always come off with the covers.

Thanks guys, they are in good shape, I had glued them to the covers with high tac, so they stayed on nicely..

The GREAT news is my cam is still healthy, but I still have to figure out where the metal is coming from... This is the 4th or 5th time I have changed the oil since rebuilding it and I'm STILL getting oil that looks like it has metal flake in it.....
