: What do ya'll think of this '69...
ulySSes Jul 18th, 07, 11:23 PM ...based on the info and pics provided?
Ebay item # 130133078350
The auction has ended a 2nd time without reaching its reserve. I've contacted the seller interested and said he'd let it got for 22.5k from 23.5 a week ago. I'm going to call him in the morning to get more info.
Thanks, guys.

jayrod Jul 19th, 07, 12:18 AM I really like the colors and the wheels but the whole car sits up too high. It looks like its on stilts. They could have done better on the engine compartment too.
Bunz-T Jul 19th, 07, 5:51 AM Here are the nit pick things I see:
1. As mentioned sits a little high for 14"
2. Incorrect exhaust
3. No seat back chrome or adjuster knobs
4. No radio
5. Appears heater control knobs missing
6. No Windlace
7. Faded emergency brake pull handle
8. Steering wheel appears to be cracked and if it is an original it probably is
9. Motor could use original style valve covers and air cleaner
10. Seat backs appear to be original and unpainted.
These are all simple fixes but it leads to several other questions:
1. If a fresh restoration why so many small items left undone and how many more.
2. History of motor and rebuild.
At $22500 +$1000 freight to Houston +$1500 to correct things shown and unshown you are at $25K. Worth IT ? Car appears to be older restoration freshened by this dealer. Nice but a 69 at $25K should have a little more going for it.
Also looks like the wrong shade of red for '69 Garnet Red. Underside of hood painted body color, wrinkles in seat covers, etc. May be a decent car but one of those that must be inspected in person to determine soundness and quality.
Chris Stanwyck Jul 19th, 07, 7:12 AM Something about buying a car without seeing it yourself kinda freaks me out. Too many ugly possibilities.
ulySSes Jul 19th, 07, 7:51 AM I asked him in the past why the car is sitting so high. He said it's because new springs have been installed and need to sette in. He also quoted me a price of 775.00 shipping to my door.
By the way, I appreciate the replys and advice. I'll let ya'll know what he says when I call him later today. I gotta go to work now!
Have a good day, everybody.
ChrisL Jul 19th, 07, 8:35 AM Looks like they did a body on resto a few years back...decent car but needs some new parts to freshen it up. If I were purchasing i'd request pictures of the undercarriage. Not worth 20K+ in my opinion.
CRUZN69 Jul 19th, 07, 10:13 AM Where did they hide the horns? They aren't where they are supposed to be.
oktunes Jul 19th, 07, 12:59 PM Having bought a car from Ohio in the spring and living in the midwest all my life, I would not buy without a full, personal inspection, including the car on a lift and a drive to wring it out. Since you are in Tx, I would sooner buy a car from your area or west of you.
Matt
ulySSes Jul 19th, 07, 7:18 PM I spoke to guy and he says it's a true SS. I noticed some of the details mentioned, but I'm not concerned about most since they are small and can easily be corrected. I asked about the drivetrain and he didn't know the origin of it. He said everything works, the doors shut like they should and the glass is good. He said I wouldn't be dissapointed.
He was hesitant to tell me his price was firm which makes me believe he would go negotiate some more. I just sent him an email asking for pics of the undercarriage, cowl tag and VIN and asked if he'd be willing to take $21k. I also asked him how he knows it's a true SS car.
We'll see what happens. Thoughts?
ratuned Jul 19th, 07, 9:03 PM lets see,
he's a dealer. so you have to cut through the salesman bs and separate what is fact. i don't trust dealers in general and especially ones that run private auctions. the car looks great in the pictures though. i would not send 1 cent until you or someone you can trust actually looks at it and drives it. how does he know as FACT it is a true ss? is there a 12 bolt under it? i would proceed very carefully. best of luck and i hope its represented fairly and factually and you get a car you enjoy. mike
savage71chevelless Jul 19th, 07, 9:27 PM I like the car, very sharp looking. Not a trailer queen, but I wouldn't want one of those anyways. Awesome car for the local car shows, but I agree definitely sits up way too high. I would change out the springs in the car. It needs to be lowered a good 2 inches front and back
djw Jul 19th, 07, 10:03 PM Hmmmm...they forgot the front turn signal lights. ;)
Probably located next to the horns. :D
smittyocat Jul 19th, 07, 10:48 PM I would have thought that if they could have at least put some factory chrome valve covers on it and freshened the engine compartment up some, just my opinion but then again im a cheapskate. :)
ob68ss Jul 19th, 07, 11:05 PM License plate door is not there either. I guess you could take the plate off every time you wanted to fill up. Over all, the car looks nice. I am sure you can find someone that belongs here to go look. It may pay to have an inspection company to go look at it. I agree with Matt, try and buy a southern car especially in Tx. I bought my 68 from Katy. I was not disappointed.
But then again, what do I know????
davewho1 Jul 20th, 07, 6:32 AM "he says ... he said ..."
I wouldn't trust this guy. He can "SAY" anything, but that doesn't make it true. The guy's looking at dollar signs, just like all car salesmen.
It looks like a nice enough car, but I'd either get somebody that knows their stuff to fine-tooth-comb it, or go look at it myself before I spent that kind of money.
Dave
Bunz-T Jul 20th, 07, 6:40 AM As we look at this car for you I think you are going to find several things to be true.
1. There will be no build sheet produced. Without it any other BS does not matter. Any one possessing a true 69 documented SS 4 speed car would have gone to greater lengths in the restoration. They are worth in excess of $30K not hovering at $20K.
2.You need trim tag, rear end, transmission and engine ID #'s just to know exactly what you will be getting. I would hope the rear gears would be no more than 3:55 due to the long distances us Texas boys drive.
3. Push the owner a little harder about the engine rebuild. As the head bolts are unpainted and there are no receipts I would think you would need a little more than recent rebuild.
4. To title in Texas you will have to have to pass a full inspection to get a green slip and that may include smog in Houston. At the very least the horn and blinkers must work. Make sure the wiring harness for these is still there.
5.As so much was left undone my greatest concern would be what shortcuts were taken under the paint. I would not firm up anything until inspected by a "Chevelle" guy not some jughead inspector. Remember you are dealing with a dealer! 3 to 4 years down the road is when the secrets come out of the closet.
You are looking a very nice appearing car with a few issues. Our comments are only to help you not pay too much for too little. If the owner starts balking at your requests it may be time to look at something else.
Good Luck.
doc j Jul 20th, 07, 8:40 AM All the little things that are missing/wrong/lack of attention detail on this car makes me wonder about the things you can't see.
Those springs won't "settle" enough in our lifetime.
Keep in mind that there are more SS cars now than when they first were made.
