: Rochester fuel filter - which way does it go?

I've just rebuilt my 2 bbl Rochester carb and need to know which direction the in-carb filter goes. One end has a hole in the center, and the other end has a larger hole with a cone in the center, created by the hole from the other end. Anyway, is there a certain way it should be installed, or does it really matter?

one end will be open, that end faces the fuel line. don't miss the spring that goes in first, that's what pushes the rubber or cork seal on the end of the filter up against the seat inside the fuel inlet nut.

it does matter

Tom he's installing a brass filter. The cone faces the incoming fuel.

I haven't seen one of those things in so long I forgot they existed.

still a spring, but there's a separate gasket that goes between the filter and inlet nut.

Thank you! I wasn't sure it even mattered, but I'll install it as you say it should be done.

66 If you look at the filter from the cone end you can see how much more surface area there is for the fuel to pass thru and that extra area also allows trash, dirt etc. to collect in that area and still be able to flow enough fuel to keep the engine happy.

Makes sense now. Thanks, Maner.
