well guys after my last build being a 496 i want to go turbo. any big block turbos out there? probably will go single. will be going in 69 velle. also stuck on the 6.0 ls1 turbo. i love the dead silent drivability a turbo gives and the kick in the back when it spools. concerned about room on the big block build though.

I ran a 468 bigblock last year and a 479 (4.5x3.75) this year.
Its a awesome motor concept. and you can always add more and more power.
Last engine was a stock 4 bolt 060 over with carillo rods, crower crank, srp pistons, srp std pins, ductile C&A rings, canfield heads (ported) with stainless/inconel valves. Custom cam motion roller. AEM EFI with weldon fuel pump, holley efi intake for dominator, 90 deg flange from wilson and 105mm throttlebody.
Pretty Easy install and setup. Hotside was made in 4 days by a guy here. cold side around 1 day.
This year i moved my intercooler (water) inside my car, had a guy build me a sheetmetal intake that will be making around 200 more hp than the cast unit. We moved up to a larger S400 turbo from paradise racing. It has 1.32 AR on exhaust housing for max top end power.
Its a monster to drive... i have a cromemoly chassi with 17" wide slicks. gone 7.56/281 with 21 psi of boost last year. but hoping for 200+mph this year and 6:es...
This engine uses aluminium rods. Other than that its a good street engine. The old one with carillos could cruise across the usa. And stop racing as often it got a full tank of fuel ;=)

And there will be no problems fitting a twin or single setup in a chevelle. The hot side can be very long without lag.
On new (gen 7) generator bigblocks. PSI makes a cast iron manifold that is larger than all others. Use that one and then make a hotside between that and you turbo. Fit the turbo with fasteners to the egine so its rock steady. Then just add a pipe from its flange.

Yep, the're out there.
I went twins just because of packaging and price. The master power turbo I used were $680 each. I wasn't sure how I was going to get a 5" exhaust pipe under the car, the twin 3.5" pipes fit really nice.

If you guys need a bunch of photos for your build, head over to theturboforums.com, you will find plenty of variety and you should find something worth while. A lot of S400 builds taking place right now.
Once you finish your project there is no going back. Like you mentioned, the quiet drivability is very nice, especially on the freeway trips. But nothing compares to instant positive manifold pressure.
