finally made it back to the track after many complications over the past 2 years. this was on an 1/8mi track. Best run was a 7.86@86 with a 1.66 60ft. i was fairly surprised that it 60fted that well, but mph'd so poorly.
it wasn't ideal wether, but about as good as it gets in IN, a buddy's weather program said it was like racing at 1750' altitude.
it was very lean and i forgot to bring my jet box with me.
anyways, i was fairly happy with it. it actually ran a tenth or two better than i figured it would. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
here's the combo:'71 malibu, 3700lbs, 406 flat top pistons, 64cc pro 1 215's, xe284 cam, air gap intake, 800dp, 1 3/4" headers, lousy cheapo muffler shop 2 1/2" exhaust, th350 10" convertor that flashes to 4200rpms, 4.10 12 bolt posi, M/T 26x10.5 sportsman pros that are about 10 years old. and a sucky HEI that absolutely will not keep consistant timing.
not a bad day though, drove it 25mi there, raced, drove 25mi back with no probs other than a leaky header gasket. only used about a 1/3 of a tank of gas and i made it down to 3 cars in the bracket (yawn) race. cut consectutive .527, .535, .505 lights in first 3 rounds of elims. .500 being perfect. ;)

Congrats,,, graemlins/thumbsup.gif you fared better than I did tonight. I made 3 time runs, 1000ft track, 10.17,10.08,10.10,,,dialed 10.10 and ran 10.07,bought back in dialed 10.08 and ran 10.06, loaded up,drank a beer and watched the rest of the races. I've won one round since I won the big money two weeks ago and slipped to 11th in points, I have one race to redeem myself and get back into the top 10 :(

m71,

What track did you run at?

You ought to come up to Indy (IRP) or Muncie and see what it will do in the 1/4.

7.86, what is that low 12's? Pretty nice runs. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

to tell you the truth, i don't even know if i was getting full throttle or not, i did no tuning whatsoever, other than timing. once i get the 3" exhaust, MSD, and get the jetting right for this thing, it should be alot faster. not to sound arrogant or anything like that, but i think there is at least 3 tenths to be gained in it once i get the parts and get it lined out. i think it'll run pretty darn close to what my 454 did.
BTW, i raced at ET Raceway, it's only about a 25mi drive for me. probably go to Brown County next weekend for the Fall Invitational.

If it is real lean the jetting will get you some more, especially MPH. Sounds like it's doing pretty good.

Congrats on the good times graemlins/beers.gif Damn are combos are pretty close. What would that equal in 1/4 time?

Did you just bolt the air gap on out of the box?

Nice job. I'm glad you finally got back to the track. I wish we could get 1750' air. It's usually around 3000-3500' here.

yes, that's about as good as it gets here. the track is at 600' elevation, and even though the temp was excellent at 75deg the humidity just never seems to go away. typically in the summer the temps are high 80's low 90's with about 80-95% humidity.

Did you just bolt the air gap on out of the box? yes the air gap is untouched. and it is considerably smaller than the head ports. i thought about port matching but to get the intake to match the heads would take considerable grinding and i was kind of leary of doing that. didn't want to mess the velocity and port flow up on the intake. i port matched an rpm intake to sportsman heads once before and it didn't seem to help it at all, so i decided to leave this one alone.

Do you ever race at Speed's (now New Hope) Dragway? I raced there once in the early 70's and still have a trophy. That's an interesting place. Is Brown County at Bean Blossom? Another interesting place. How do you get info on Brown County Dragway?
