: Update since new gears.

I have made it to the track 4 times since I got the 3.73 gears in and made 19 passes. I have mixed feelings. My 60 ft times are a little better as they are from 2.07 - 2.19 Where as before they were usually in the 2.20s-2.30s with a rare 2.teen. 1/8 has improved to a 8.848 from a 8.973. and my 1/4 time has gone from a 13.87 to a 13.74. I was hoping for more but improvement is improvement right. I still spin quite a bit so I am sure if I get it to hook it will get better E.Ts. My MPH is about the same, ranges from 98-100. That is the same as with the 3.08 gears.
I ran around 45 passes with the 3.08s so I figure If I get that many passes with the 3.73s maybe I will see better improvement. I also did have the timing changed to no vacuum advance and be all in at 36 degrees by 3200 or so. Other than that no changes. Last time I went out I was having trouble with 3rd gear and missed it three times in 6 runs. Normally I miss it once a night at most. Not sure if it was me being stupid or if their are issues there? Will find out Friday this week as I plan on going out agin this week. (Hopefully). I think my next change will be to go with an Edelbrock RPM and a Holley? (750 vacuum sec.) What do you all think?

P.S. I love the way the car drives around town now. The new gears did make it a much easier and fun car to drive in town! Thanks Vern.

Every time you miss 3rd you are causing more damage to the syncro hub and slider

OIC so that may be why I had more trouble last time out.

Transmission is a Richmond T-10. Motor is a 35o bored .030. Cam is single pattern 216 duration and 454 lift. Headers dual exhaust with H-Pipe. HEI Dist. Performer intake with Edelbrock 600 carb. Car weighs about 3700-3800 with me in it.

If your engine has 9:1 comp or more you can increase the cam with those gears. Your cam is pretty mild. Very good numbers for that cam

The compression is between 9.5 to 1 and 9.8 to 1. I am considering the Voodoo line. I think the number is 60103. Was just trying to see where I can get to with the present cam. Need a different intake and carb as well. Was considering the Edelbrock Performer RPM or Weiand Stealth with a 670 Street Avenger or 750 model 3310. Does this sound like it may work well, even if I do not swap cams?

Perry,

I would not change the intake and carb without stepping up the cam. Your set up is correct for the cam you have now. BTW, beautiful car!!!!!

What heads are you using ? Are you using street tires? If so put some 275/60 15 m/t drag radials on that that pretty red 66.

heads are TFS aluminum 31400001 Here are the specs:
180cc intake port, 64cc chamber, 1.250" valvesprings good for .500" lift,
13* intake / 23* exhaust valve angles, 2.02"/1.60" valves, cast iron guides,
teflon seals, angled parkplugs.

I run BFG drag radials on it now at the same size as you mentioned.

Gotta get it hooking before trying to sort other things out.
Get some M/t drag radials or some slicks.....once it dead hooks, then you can start evaluating changes for the good or bad.
Very nice looking ride! :) (I am a little partial to a 66:)

Beautiful car you have. I would like to put the cowl hood on mine like you have in the pic where it is on stands. Guess I just like that look. Dead hooking scares me as I am running an 8.2 ten bolt. Just put in the new ring pinion and all and was done by a guy who owns a shop and drag races himself, he has done plenty gear swaps and is good at his craft. Just still scares me with a 4 speed and 8.2.

Thanks.....The hood is even blue now, I guess I need to take a couple updated pics.

Well you have a good looking, respectablely quick street car the way it is.
It's always a compromise when it comes to going faster or loosing streetablilty and reliability.
