: UDHarold - 280/288 spring pressure

I want to get the 401B1LUN camshaft. It's the solid 280/288. Only I'd want it on a small base circle and with a 110 LSA.

The springs I currently have are the isky 6005 springs. Installed at 1.75", they have a 135 seat pressure. At .514" valve lift (the max valve lift with that cam, 1.5 rockers, and .026" lash) I will have 275 open pressure.

Is the open pressure good enough if I never take it past 6000 MAX, and RARELY take it over 5K?

Also, I would like to purchase this cam this or next week. How do I contact you?

Thanks

I purchase the same cam for my SBC 400 and Harold told me between 125-140 seat & about 325-350 open. Here is UDHarold work# 1-901-365-8958 ext:135
Here is the link reference spring pressure:

Unfortunately I made the mistake of ordering standard sized valves which puts my installed height at 1.700". So finding a dual valve spring with those specs was difficult (this is the first time I'm assembling my own heads graemlins/clonk.gif ). But I think I found a single valve with those specs.

It's Isky P/N: 3105-D

130 @ 1.700"
320 @ 1.200"
325 @ 1.186" (over nose)
Coil bind is at 1.100", so I should still have .086" clearance. smile.gif

That seems perfect to me.

Thanks!

Uhhh, I think that's pretty tight. Less than .100? I'd recommend looking around some more. Maybe some .050 or .100 dished retainers?

I've always been told that .06" is the limit. Comp cams recommends this as well i believe.

Minimum height over coil bind should be at least .060". Because valve springs have surge frequencies at various RPMs, .050" is recommended as the minimum to keep from stacking springs when in surge.
All any of my hydraulic cams need for seat pressure is 110 lbs. This is what I recommend for the 280/288H. Many of the cams, like the 272H or 276H, run just fine with STOCK valve springs, about 84 to 90 lbs.
Open pressures under 320 are fine, also.

The one I'm looking at is the solid 280/288 for my SBC 406.

Sorry about that......

After looking through the Lunati and Comp Cams catalogs, the Isky 3105-D looks like your best choice....
