I have a 70 malibu and my trunk lock decided to stop working over the weekend. I put the key in to open the trunk and it will not turn. I tried the simple fixes like graphite and wiggling the key with no luck. Any ways to open the trunk so I can replace the cylinder?

Obvious question, are you sure you have the right key. I have so many chevies around here I've tried to open things with the wrong keys many times. To get in the trunk, remove the back seat and spacer cardboard if it still exists. You can then use a screw driver duck taped to a broom handle to trun the lock to open the trunk, off course there is always a 44 mag round through the old lock. ;)

Thanks Rick. I do have the right key. Sunday morning I put my golf cart and shoes in the trunk and (luckily) my clubs in the back seat. I closed the trunk, went around the block to pick-up my neighbor, and could not re-open the trunk. He put his clubs in the back seat and we left. I am not a big fan of golfing so it was kinda funny watching a foursome stop teeing-off until I shut the big old LOUD hot rod down when we pulled in!

Try putting some downward pressure on the trunk lid when you turn the key. I used to get calls like this when I was a locksmith. People would get shopping bags into the latch when they closed the trunk.
