: HOOKER - header fits?
EDDY merlin Feb 6th, 05, 12:28 PM He' guys,
A friend of mine has a set of Hooker-headers part-nr :HOK-2205-HKR (2" tube......3.1/2" collect.
It fits a '67/'69 camaro or '68/'70 nova (big block's)!,
My question : can they fits a A-Body 1972 with a merlin 540ci (10.200" deck)?
And no!, whats the problem?
I saw on the Hooker-site that the part-number :HOK-2205-HKR........also fits chevelle's!?!?!?
Who can give me the info i need?,
Thanks a lot!!!
Eddy.
EDDY merlin Feb 6th, 05, 12:31 PM OOH yeh'!,
I'm gonna remove my front-fenders!!!
Eddy.
EDDY merlin Feb 9th, 05, 2:06 PM No one??
Eddy.
Troy70SS Feb 9th, 05, 4:11 PM I have some Hooker 2" Comps and they didn;t fit my Chevelle very well. I had to do some fairly major dinging and massaging to get them into the car. Must have had the driver's side out 20 times before I was satisfied. Had to lift the engine to do so BTW. My old 1-3/4" cheapies fit much better and would go in/out without lifting the driver's side of the engine. They just don't look as good. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't by the Hookers.

Troy. Wow. I have Hooker Comps with 2" primaries and they fit like a champ. No dinging. I guess the Header Gods were smiling down on me that day. I installed them when I installed the motor so it was much easier.
67RAT Feb 9th, 05, 4:40 PM try hooker themselves,give them a call,I think you will have some small problems--67rat
67RAT Feb 9th, 05, 4:43 PM disregaurd this post
cromedss Feb 9th, 05, 6:56 PM try squeezing them in a 65 with BBC (2" Hooker Comps). I would rather be burned at the stake than go through that hell again. I don't understand why they just don't make the tweaks to them at the factory. graemlins/angry.gif
EDDY merlin Feb 10th, 05, 1:37 PM Troy and Ben,
Are we talking about the same Hooker-headers
Part-number HOK-2205-HKR?
'67/'69 camaro's and .......chevelle's are having the same part-number! are here no differants between these 2 headers?
Thanks all of you!!!
Eddy.
EDDY merlin Feb 11th, 05, 12:03 PM Troy and Ben???
Eddy.
forcd ind Feb 11th, 05, 12:32 PM accordining to my hooker book, 2205's are for 67-69 camero b/b, 68-72 nova-the part # for chevelles is (2" pipes) 2217-they dont list 2205' for chevelles-hope this helps
EDDY merlin Feb 11th, 05, 12:50 PM Yep youre right "forcd ind" !!!That are two other numbers!!
But what could be the differants between these 2 headers?
Hooker did not E-mailing!!
Also "hedman" headers!!(maybe they can tell me the differants...........but they won't!!
Maybe i can make these Hooker "Camaro BBC"Headers fits for my car!!
(A friend wants to sell them!!)
Thanks a lot for the reply guys!!
Eddy.
EDDY merlin Feb 12th, 05, 6:23 AM Nobody ?
Eddy.
ben70 Feb 12th, 05, 10:36 AM I checked my headers-they were part number 2455, the Competitions, not the Super Comps.
EDDY merlin Feb 13th, 05, 6:11 AM O.K. Ben thanks for your reply!!
Troy 70ss?

SS454JC Feb 15th, 05, 8:10 PM Hello,
I have had Hooker Super Competition p/n 2217 headers on 1970 454 / stock steel heads / stick Chevelle for 17 years. Fit is excellent. Using stock motor mounts. No header denting required. No rubbing anywhere. No problem near brake system block on chassis. Great overall fit. Just grabbed another set or p/n 2217 to replace my old headers. I will say that 2217's hang below chassis and kiss the street when hitting severe dips too quick.
My friend just installed Hooker Competition p/n 2455 on 1970 454 / stock steel heads / auto Chevelle. Also stock motor mounts. Fit is not good on his car. Tubes hit lower control arm mounts on passenger side chassis, required denting the headers. I believe steering shaft was rubbing also. Not sure. Not a big deal to install these but they did require some denting.
Both 2217 and 2455 are 2 inch with 3 1/2 collectors. The tubing configuration / routing is different, and it makes a difference for fit.
Good luck with your car, Joe
Bomber '67 Feb 15th, 05, 10:49 PM Crazy Eddy, the California Dragman says you will have issues no matter what. In addition to the tall deck block you also have raised exhaust port location, right?
As you may have noticed, none of the replies had both the tall deck and raised exhaust ports.
Headers seem more frustrating for some than others. For example: I used Hooker #2455 in my '65 with Big Brodie heads (raised exhaust port). Other than the raised exhaust port making for a steering shaft issue on #5, the fit and installation was excellent.
I don't think the 2205's will work for you - I would expect them to have interference with your crossmember. But if you are handy with a welder then anything can be made to fit.
For your application the 2455's are more likely to work. Because of the tall deck/raised exhaust port you may have a slight issue with the steering shaft. One thing I do to make header installs easier is to remove the steering shaft and do a trial fit to check for frame rail clearance and other lower fittment issues. Then I slide the steering shaft back in to see if #5 needs a dimple.

EDDY merlin Feb 16th, 05, 2:49 PM Hello Thomas "the Socal madman...dragman" how you´re doing??
Thanks for this good reply......Joe you too!!!
Thomas, if you mean that my exhaust-ports are more upwards(higher): Yes!!.......Its a 10.200" deck(9.800" is standaard ...am i right?).
My engine is still in it!(Pontiac 400ci),i can't measure it Thomas!!
I have E-mail Hooker(i'll think they are to "BIG" to answer a Flying Dutchman!!LOL.
And Hedman headers also!!
They won't tell me the differants between a Camaro BB header...and a Chevelle BB header!!
You think the problem is the cross-member Thomas?
Do you have new roller lifters from Comp-cam Thomas?
I'm gonna replace them for the Isky's redzone
from Mike's(wolfplace)!
Thanks a lot !!
See ya later!!
Eddy the flying-dutchman!!!!
Bomber '67 Feb 16th, 05, 10:36 PM Eddy, which cylinder heads did you get? Of course the exhaust ports will be higher because of the tall deck block - in addition to that, many of the aftermarket heads have the exhaust port raised higher than on stock cylinder heads. For example my Big Brodies have the exhaust port raised .600". So, even though my block is a standard deck, my exhaust port is raised from the factory port location. If you have raised port cylinder heads with your tall deck block you could easily have the actual port location 1" higher than on a factory big block. In addition to that, the tall deck moves the port location further towards the fenders.
Yes, I think there are crossmember and frame differences between A body and F body cars.
The only way you will really know what will or will not work is when you are installing the engine. Be creative and take it slowly and you might be amazed what you can make fit.
Here is something I have done when I need to bend the whole header (all four tubes at once):
1) Bolt the engine in place and bolt up the header, then use a hydraulic jack and a piece of wood to move the collector position up.
2) Moving the collector and primary tubes inward is also done with the headers bolted onto the engine. Since this usually needs to be done because the headers won't fit between the framerails, this is done with the engine on an engine stand: use one (or two as needed) chain ratchet tie downs, be creative with stout lumber or scrap iron beams and "draw" the two sides together.
*note* stainless steel headers can be very difficult to bend, the steel cheapies are usually the easiest to manipulate.
The Isky lifters are a good choice. Yes I have Comps.

EDDY merlin Feb 17th, 05, 12:00 PM Hoi thomas,
I have the Merlin-VR iron heads 320cc int run.....119cc chamber.
(2.30" int valve........1.88" exh valve)
I'm gonna remove my fenders thomas!!(dragracing)
I have learning for welder!..... i think i could handle that to remake the headers!
Thanks a lot for the technical support Thomas!!
Eddy.......The Flying Dutchman!!!!
Troy70SS Feb 17th, 05, 4:50 PM Sorry it took me so long to get back on this. I have the 2455's and I had the same issues with the lower ctrl arm mounts and the steering column. It was an all-day experience. Good thing I have an engine hoist and a fridge with beer next to the car! I will try Hedmans next time I have to replace these which hopefully isn't for a few years.
Troy.
EDDY merlin Feb 20th, 05, 6:56 AM Thomas the dragman(bomber'67),where are you?
