The chrome trim on the buckets on my '70 Elky SS could stand to be replaced.
Currently, there is the chrome trim around the seat backs and no chrome trim on the seat bottoms. Nor is there any "bullet" shaped end caps. After doing a search, I found numerous threads inquiring about the correctness of having or not having the chrome trim on the seat bottoms as well as the use of the end caps in '70. Unfortunately, like many thread replies, there was a lot of speculation and guessing about whether or not '70 bucket seats had the chrome trim on the seat bottoms, but no authoritative answer. The '70 El Camino sales brochure shows no bottom chrome trim and no bullet end caps. Unfortunately, we know the accuracy of the brochure can't be trusted. I think my Elky is correct, but I'd like to be sure. Anyone out there know for sure what's correct for '70 Chevelles and Elky's?

No chrome caps, that's for sure. The chrome that is available, is substantially smaller than what the factory used. It is the same stuff as door edge guard. Watch out on ebay as well, as they advertise new and inproved bigger stuff, but IMHO, it is still the same size, if not a smidgen bigger. Still nowhere near as big as the original stuff. Your old stuff should come off easily, and you can try the stuff that is available, and if you don't like it, you can always put the original stuff back on.

What about the seat bottoms. Chrome trim or not?

Hey Rich,

Well....this is my thought. I've had my Camino for about 30 years now and it had the original interior when I bought it. It's Van Nuys built Oct., '69. It had the chrome seat trim around the bottom pieces and was made of the exact same material as the backs. There were no end trim caps. So....to keep in line with that, I put new trim back on the bottom pieces and kept the old stuff for those who may question it.

I personally think it looks nice either way. I haven't given you a definate answer, but there was one for sure built WITH the trim on the bottom pieces from the factory. They probably came both ways.

I think there are a few things like this. Another item is lighters. There are two styles for that too. Folks will disagree about them too.

Some of these decisions are tough calls. On this part if ya feel yours is set up without trim, don't put it on. You can always tell 'em, like me, that it came that way.

Good luck with the project!
