: Pics of my new toy! Not "performance" yet, but ...
kboorman Mar 20th, 04, 12:04 AM I just set up a webpage with some pics of my new '66 (see my sig line). It's pretty sedate for now, but I'm hoping to get this car into the 10's someday. I've already gotten a lot of good advice from the TC members and others (thanks all), and I'm sure I'll need more along the way. I guess I should spring for the membership fee, huh? graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Bob West Mar 20th, 04, 12:50 AM I think that I would reconsider your choice of transmissions if you are serious about the "10's" I think a th400 and 4500 stall would help reach your goal, much easier and with less parts laying on the ground when you launch ;)
Nickel333 Mar 20th, 04, 2:55 AM hey robert, who wants to drive a 4500 stall around on the highway???? That TKO-600 is rated at 600 ft/lbs of torque. Go with the stick all the way.
Bad Rat 414 Mar 20th, 04, 3:16 AM Realy the car looks to nice the way it is to go changeing everything.
kboorman Mar 20th, 04, 2:04 PM Thanks guys. The reason I chose the TKO trans is because I absolutely want a man. trans in this car. I originally thought that I would go with a redesigned M22, which I was told handles up to 700 hp without problems. In fact, I'd rather have this trans since I won't have to modify the trans tunnel to get it in there, but... with its 1:1 final drive, the 4.10's aren't great on the highway. The advantage of the TKO is the much deeper 1st gear and either .82 or .64:1 final ratio, and it seems up to snuff in the power dept.
Bad Rat, This car is a 50 footer - looks great 'till you get close. It was restored once, but not done right, needs patch panels etc... but I know what you mean, I didn't think it was right to take a car in this shape and change everything. The thing is, the car drives nice and looks decent, and I can enjoy it while I'm saving for the restoration and performance mods. graemlins/beers.gif
pdq67 Mar 20th, 04, 2:20 PM kboorman,
Per D2K, my 9.8 to 1 CR., 496 should make around 550hp at 5500rpm and 580t at 4500 rpm and when I plug it into DRAG for my First Gen. car with an M-20, 3.31's and about 26" tall tires she is predicted to go 10.5 sec. at 130 in the quarter THEORETICALLY if she can hook and NOT break anything.
AND still run right at 3000/3100 rpm at 70 just like stock!
What I am not doing a very good job of explaining is that you don't need fancy stuff with a big grunt motor!! A good M-20 and a set of even 3.08's will do you nicely until you put on big slicks!! And you can go down the highway in not too shabby a style too!! Imho..
BUT if you put big slicks on her, you better get a checkbook ready b/c it's gonna cost a bunch when you hook and make her so and you don't break anything!!
pdq67
PS., I know both are sim's but even at that, if you have the grunt you don't have to change much to go really well and I can attest to that b/c my buddy's Tri-power, 440 GTX with a four speed and 3.23's used to haul a-- b/c of good old MOPAR grunt back when it was new!!
Bomber '67 Mar 20th, 04, 3:13 PM I would say that it looks much better than a "50 footer", but for sure internet pics can make a sled look show worthy. Beautiful color, one of my favorites.
As pdq points out "theoretically" you have a mid 10 car - let me empasize that it will only exist in theory. Everybody loves those power and speed sim programs, but in the real world few hobby cars are optimized. Funny thing about those sim programs: supposedly my 640hp/602tq 496 in my ~ 3,600 lb race weight '65 also "clocks" in at 10.51 e.t. at 130 mph. If I get anything close to a 10.9x e.t. at 125+ mph I will be really happy.

EDDY merlin Mar 20th, 04, 3:45 PM He' kirk,
very nice car!!
What's this older generation chevelle's weight?
And what rear-gear has it now?
What is the complete assembly?
See ya'
EDDY merlin.
cjlandry Mar 20th, 04, 6:00 PM Kirk, that car is absolutely gorgeous!
Your car is my all time favorite Chevelle, color, interior, everything. I love a '66 Malibu!
I've only said this about a few cars in my life, that's one that doesn't deserve to be chopped up and raced.
You could still squeeze a big block between the fenders and put a 12-bolt out back. I just hate to see you chopping the tunnel for the trans.
I hope you achieve your goals. Beautiful car! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
kboorman Mar 22nd, 04, 11:03 AM Hey guys, thanks for looking.
pqd67 - I definitely want to take advantage of the "grunt" and would like to use the lowest numerical rear gear to get to my goal, and I think the 5 speed will help in this dept. I intend to beef up the suspension so that she don't break. The car won't see that much track time, 'cause I don't want to abuse it after so much time & money invested.
bomber - maybe it's a 30 footer - I guess I'm so critical because it's mine and I know where every flaw is
EDDY - not sure about the weight or the rear gear, both stock (for now)
cj - I don't want to chop this car up, I want to hop it up! I intend to use a stock console and buckets in her. I love the look of the 66 inside and out.
Thanks agian, Kirk

JRS70LS5 Mar 22nd, 04, 11:20 AM Everyone of us has a flaw somewhere on are cars, that's why we keep working on them!Nice car! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
kboorman Mar 22nd, 04, 11:21 AM Brian, where can I get some info on the Jerico?
Bad67SS Mar 22nd, 04, 12:38 PM You'll have to chop regardless if you plan on the TKO-600. Trans tunnel top will need to be removed/modified...
Mike
kboorman Mar 22nd, 04, 1:49 PM I know if I use the 5 spd, I'll have to cut. I am leaning in this direction, but if I could use a rearend gear that's semi-streetable that will still get me to my performance goal, I would rather use the M22 and avoid the modification.
