Hi all. Got my 69 Malibu home last week finally. It's only a 307, but running strong with only 2000 miles on rebuild, performer intake, 600 edel carb and 224/214 cam. Engine runs great but with a powerglide tranny it feels like it's being held back. I want to install a th350 but the seller of the car bragged about how PGs are used for racing so it's just fine.

The PG shifts too early for my tastes, right about 30 mph at WOT. If I'm doing 30+, it won't kick down for a kick in the a**.

I know that nobody here likes a 307, wimpy engine, etc, but it's fine for me for now until my BBC is done.

The th350 is from a 79 Camaro and supposedly shifted/ran great when pulled. A chance I have to take. Will this tranny (if in good shape) help my launch capabilities?

I'm not going to do anything other than street, but love to jump from light to light.

Should I do this swap and if I do, will the 454 bolt to the th350?

PGS are used in race cars, dragsters, but not stock PGS. Sounds like you need to adjust the ,passing gear linkage, if that doesnt change your shift times maby a new modulater would fix it.Try to get an adjustable mod.

Adjust the modulator to change the shift point.
Powerglides are great in light cars for the quarter mile, but a Turbo 350 will give you an extra gear which will really wake up your Chevelle. I changed my 68 Camaro from a Powerglide to a Turbo 350 and it made quite a difference. The Turbo 350 is the same length as the Powerglide, so you will not have to shorten your driveshaft or modify your crossmember. You can even reuse your Transmission Mount, but I would recommend the mount made by Energy Suspension. Shiftworks http://www.shiftworks.com/ makes all of the parts for the conversion.
Hope this helps.

Sadly, the price on the th350 is only $125. Comes with a convertor. Should I replace it or try it with the stock convertor that is with it? Should I start with a rebuild or go with it is to try it?
