My uncle is rebuilding his 95' Chevy 1500 4x4 with a 5.7L. He wants to get more torque out of it for towing. He is adding headers, a chip, and throttle body spacer. He is also buying a cam. What is a good comp. controlled cam to run? We were looking at CC 12-388-4, 1000-5000 rpms, .426, 440 lift, and 206, 214 @ .050. Does this look good for added low end torque.
Thanks for an input for parts or cam choice.

Mike,
I think your friend needs to do a bit of reading and research before starting. I might be wrong, but usually, a throttle body or carb spacer will hurt low end performance, but help upper rpm. As far as the chips go, don't believe everything you read ... see if you can find someone that has actually installed one and see if it really made any difference at anything other than wide open throttle. Camshaft wise, I would call a couple of cam manufacturers and tell them exactly what you are doing, and follow thier recommendations. If his block is machined to accept a hydraulic roller, you might want to consider that route also.
If he is serious about towing, and not real interested in gas mileage, I think his best bang for the buck would be to change rear end ratio's to a bit higher gear ... say a 3.73, depending on what he has now. It gets a bit pricy with the 4x4 though because you have to do two of them.

Hi Mike,
As far as real performance chips are concerned, I found the best to be made by Ed Wright [ewright@mail.gorilla.net]at www.fastchip.com (http://www.fastchip.com) . I have had one on my '95 5.7 liter C/K-1500 since 1997 and have not had any problems with it. The best thing is that it works at part thottle as well as at WOT! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
I found Ed to be very knowledgeable and really a good guy (he spent time to answer my basic questions - something that is very rare nowadays with most performance companies. graemlins/angry.gif )
He was recommended to me by a friend who runs with the Impala SS crowd (late models). You may want to checkout his website: www.fastchip.com (http://www.fastchip.com)
Good luck,
