I'll bet right now they're all stuffed with keg-a-que prepared sirloin burgers and other assorted junk and are bench racing their a$$es off! I wish I could have been there!

I hope one of the guys took and will post pics:yes:

I'm not gonna steal anyone else's thunder.
Self and son JR left after the burgers and dogs, about 9pm.
Thanks to Ben, Loader1, Dave...good chow in the pits!

My son Junior said he had a great time!!! (told him to tell his mom)

Tech? What Tech? Ben had a spare helmet.....they never looked under my hood and I offered them a look. I'd thought 90 MPH or 14.99 would be victory.

Most everybody got 4 runs in for my three due to some of that staging madness. They probably did one more run after chow.

Pretty toasty out there, cooling by pass 3 around 8:30 pm

Pass# 1 2 3
RT .378 .271 -.07
60 2.28 2.297 2.392
1/8 9.78 9.81 9.843
mph 72.84 72.90 73.48

1/4 15.239 15.274 15.261
mph 89.56 89.96 90.08

1st pass left at the last yellow, off-idle
2nd pass left as the last yellow was due to light, left a bit harder
3rd pass left as the middle yellow lit, a bit early.......left yet harder, got a touch of wheel hop. Bastages at the burn-out pad sprayed water everywhere...difficult to drive through the narrow dry patch.

Greg aka Buick Special really impressed me with quicker times and better mph!
Good going!!! Loader1 showed me "the glove," some sort of drag racing icon, Ben and Dave kept knocking down their times......

The car ran well, no surge or miss. Perhaps a tach might be a good idea.
Reasonably sure in 1-2 shift I was 6000. Developed a healthy exhaust leak on the way home. I hit the 90 mph mark, had a blast, declaring tonight a success.

I was signing my vehicle in, base of tower, Joel and I were doing a stare-down.
I introduced myself as a friend of yours......
he said he still had the 8.5" 10-bolt

Early on, while I waited for 1st pass, a car ahead broke, guess this was JOEL. The track went dead 15 minutes for clean-up. Didn't see him afterward. I'd seen the car roll into the lanes, sounded a bit off.....holy smokes, you got the pics quick!

You wanted times?
SUFFER!!!!!!
Suffice it to say AHSOM's Monroe time was not correct for the 1/4 mile.
He did take several chunks off.....gettin' better each pass, he just can't stomp on it.....If my 350 broke um loose with stock converter, you can imagine 71metbu and AHSOM having some issue, less so with Dave and his nice HOOSIERs. I'm reasonably sure they'll chime in with perf data.....I do think Ben was solidly into the 13s and Dave was knocking on the door for a 12-territory.....loader1 was slower tha usual but running 12-something....again, they were running different lanes, and I had a car out there running.... it was smokin'' hot....
They were moving to staging for the Last run was after I left. All the rich kids out running Jr Dragsters tonight....what a PITA

Dave's son Tory got my 90.08 run on tape...
Were ya expecting more or less from my Elky?:boring:

I think it's capable of 14's.

The original 307 in my chevelle ran a best of 14.74 in high school with 3.08 peg-leg, m-20 4 speed, with only a torker II, 600 holley and headers for engine upgrades.

Obviously I got carried away after that.

Ok, OK< OK,

I can't be certain.....
think AHSOM was 13.5 and breaking the century...know some passes were low 94...this was an earlier pass....
think 71metbu was just a hair above 13..... 13.0 something...last mph was 107
loader1 396 was not liking the heat, high 12s
Art's Camaro think, think 11.4, not faster with the trans brake

again, these are rough estimate/best recollection. Temps falling rapidly, expect better number with their closing reports.

KUDOs to Greg, 15.0s to my 15.2s, 92 mph to my 90 mph. He has less gear, no posi yet running faster. Think it was Dave P who said the Buick was a few hun lighter than my Elky. However ya cut it, good job Greg!!!

LS7 Vette ran 12.2 at 120 mph next to me 1st pass. Wow!
Pass 2 and 3 I beat VW tuner sedans.:hurray:

I made some improvement, the Elky pretty-much does what it wants.
The Ben-Dave connection were biting off big chunks....

Mike 66SSfan,
Did you see me list anything for the SBC? No!
Tires and suspension goodies to get traction.
Then a converter to launch harder.
Didn't say "gonna add a bigger stick"
BTW, Greg has a Voooooooooooooooooodoooooooooooo in his car. This bit of black magic may be the reason he smoked me.....

Hmmmm, 150-175 shot would work....
With the lack of HD parts, a progressive controller vs all-or-nothing would be a good idea.....

Too many irons in the fire to even think of engine improvements.....
Should get Elky minimum, just safety / upkeep and roll good stuff into Nova.

Dave P will send his email address so i can send him Nova pics b4 he decides...... He's HOOKED on this racin' thing.

I'm off to bed, work in the morning.

Thanks for the kind words George.

Darryl it was one of those deals where I probably "shouldn't" have gone, but decided I "needed" to go. :)

I made three passes due to getting there late. I could have squeeked out a 4th run but opted to sit with my kids and watch Team FrynTyr burn up some skins.

My times were as follows:

1st pass
RT: .168
60' 2.325
1/8 9.742
mph 74.39

1/4 15.024 @ 92.47

2nd pass
RT: .033
60' 2.323
1/8 9.688
mph 75.13

1/4 14.929 @ 93.03

3rd pass (felt like it fell off in first above 4800, 2 and 3rd felt fine)
RT: .055
60' 2.337
1/8 9.737
mph 74.98

1/4 14.985 @ 92.90

Not bad for a peg leg 3.08, I was running my 265/50/15 BFG Radials (26")
I didn't have any of the traction issues the big block guys suffered from.
I guess thats the one positive of having less power :D

Ben definitely needs tires to get him moving off the line... well, at least to get him moving forward, he's got the sideways thing down. :D

I had a great time, nothing broke, and we got to fry some Tyrs! (Ok, I fried 1 tire... :o )

Just got in the house after unloading.

Man, that was fun! Not very many passes, but lots of good BS. Was nice to finally meet Ben and Greg, and to see George again. I had met Dave before but this time we got to talk more. And the kid:D was there sniffin' the inside of my car. Darryl, you gotta get that motor of his done so he has something to do!

The food was just right, after Ben performed field expedient measures on the keg a que. Broke out the Elk sausage,.....hope it isn't to hard on Brett's internals tonight. I could tell Dave knew all about that:yes:.

So anyway, the dragracing,.....yea everyone did well I thought. Seemed to me like everyone has a real good handle on what they need to do to get the most out of what they have. George ran the number that he threw out there in another post, so he has to feel good. Some found out that running on a real dragstrip can be an eye opener. Dave just couldn't get the :D off his face! He needs some TYR to harness the power. Greg's car did real well,...hooked up better than I thought it would, and he has some good ideas on where he's going with the car overall. And Ben ran well. His car (truck?) is very nice, but I was most impressed with Ben, who like Brett, represents his younger generation well and we older guys should be proud to know them. Not embellishing here just the facts in today's world.

MY car? Just ran normal. First pass 12.90 w/108.15 r/t .019. Best 12.76 w/108.38 r/t .032. Others were in between with a 1 redlight:o.

The track itself was awesome, I thought, just too much going on, on the same night. Sure missed Mark and Darryl and the other Mike:D. We all have got to get together at Bremerton, Dave.........handle it! Pick a date, I'll be there. Damn, I gotta get to bed. Oh yea, started this at 0135, took me a while to get my thoughts into print (SHUT UP Brett).

Awsome job guys, we definitely need to all be at Bremerton at the same time. Do we have a date set on when we are all gona go yet? I know that after this week there is a 3 week lay off. Hopefully I can get my chevelle back up and running by then.

I have to fix the distributor problem, swap springs and shocks. Then gona have to decide on how bad I need a anti-roll bar, currently the whole left side of my car raises up a good amount, and with the new springs and shocks the front should lift up pretty good, with alot more twist.

Gents,

I've been at work since 8AM.
Art called a few minutes ago...he had the blue 69 Camaro, 383 stroker.
The car was not running better with the trans brake active.
His best last PM 11.74@116, best at Bremerton on cooler evenings 11.5 @ 118+++.

Dave, nice to finally meet ya! 13.082 @ 107.7 is great for initial outing especially running a 3.08 ring gear!

Waiting for Ben's report.

add'l thoughts:
Art did suggest swapping the 427 outa my Vette and into the Elky for some shots at the 12 sec window..... I guess when he said that forgetting about the Nova. I'm kinda tempted to misbehave more with the Elky. As I'd never had the Elky much above 75 on the freeway, 1st pass I stayed on it to 110 as Mr Z-o6/LS7 Vette stayed on it too...think he was 140+ before he started shutting down. Very impressive 12.3 @ 120mph but $70k for the pleasure.

Hasnt really set in yet that he bought it, I hope we arent disapointed. I will get some pics up of it too for you guys. Had fun finally meeting Dave, Ben, and Greg. Was nice to see all of there rides in person finally. I think Ben is mad at me because for some reason all I did was tell him everything wrong with his car. Beautiful paint job. I think by telling him bad things, he will finally not be so afraid to drive it being a junker and all. :D

Here are some crappy pics. I didnt take anymore, just got lazy. Also, I took video of Dave and Ben's first runs. Both of them over estimated the traction they would have, spinning off the line. They learned and improved nearly every run afterwards. Quality sucks. I only took these 2 vids because Dave's son was shooting video for every run with a better camera. I was messing with the amount of burnout I put to Them, so it varied. I do have DR's, but they are too small for My power level. I'd of hated too try it without what I do have. Wouldn't of gone anywhere.

Hey hey.. I'm here. Been out adventuring all day- Made up some fiance' points by going to the Lavender Festival in Marysville this morning then went and tried to drive the northcascade "scenic" highway today- didn't see the sign saying the road was washed out 17 miles into the gravel road... so 40 miles up to the gravel road and 17 miles on gravel to realize we couldn't go any farther... then 17 miles, and 40 miles back. Whew.

I'm not sure what glasses george was watching me with, but i'd like to get a pair. I got 6 runs in (could have had 8 but i was running the bbq for a while) My best of the night was only 14.21 @ 98.1mph... But that was pussyfooting it off the line and rolling into it- and it still spun the tires the first 50ft or so... Street tires are worthless. I will find a way to get some drag radials before i run again so i can try and launch properly.

I feel high to mid 13's should be easy pickings IF i can launch at more than an easy roll off the line at idle.

Had a blast with everyone... Think we need to set a date for august @ bremerton, then maybe one more date at Pacific in September- see if we can get another good group together! :D

OK Dave, mind some advice from an east coast guy?
when running drag radials....Do NOT drive through the burnout box water!!!Drive around it. What happens is that the water gets caught up in the tire grooves & when you on the starting line, it drips down under the tires. thats why you hooked great a few feet out but spun initially.

I say try the DRs again but don't get them wet.

BTW, this advise is from a racer with 19 years exp bracket racing & was a 3 time regional division finalist.

Why didn't you run Ben?

MARK,

After I unloaded floorjack etc, we went to the lanes. Dude "teched me in" but didn't look. I was beside Ben, lane 4 but Ben in lane 5. My lane emptied and when I pulled-up, they started lane 5 and 6.....left me high and dry. Now as to why Ben can't count lane numbers....5 and 6 being drag tire????? Anyway, it worked for him, he got an extra pass in while I got stuck in the lane for an hour plus.

I was actually pretty happy with my times.....
My RTs were amazing, .3 something and .2 something!!!!! So much for cat-like reflexes. I left earlier then early enough to redlight on try 3 but only -.07 so know to launch NEXT TIME at just after the middle yaller. Guess this is the soggy suspension in the Elky. The old Nova was far more positive suspension-wise......that car I'd have to wait after the last yaller cause she just moved out (4.56 and 2800 stall).

Off to work

Thanks for the vids, Dave:thumbsup:

That's gotta be the longest earthquake ever filmed................................

BTW, what brand of drag radials are you running?

Hoosiers

OK Dave, mind some advice from an east coast guy?
when running drag radials....Do NOT drive through the burnout box water!!!Drive around it. What happens is that the water gets caught up in the tire grooves & when you on the starting line, it drips down under the tires. thats why you hooked great a few feet out but spun initially.

I say try the DRs again but don't get them wet.

BTW, this advise is from a racer with 19 years exp bracket racing & was a 3 time regional division finalist.

Thank's Dan. I'm going to look in several different directions. But skipping the waterbox, seem's like a good idea. We'll see, I'm kinda wonderring what to do here. Sell em, or keep them, I won't run them on the street, as they are to sticky for My liking. They toss way to many rocks into the wheel wells.

So do you heat them up dry or just drive around and stage? I'm going to try them next month.
really drag radials don't need much heat to hook. You basically just want to do a few good 'dry hops' to clean them off & get a little heat in them.

slicks do need to be driven through the water though.

I think that to be true. I think that I was bringing water up to the starting line with Me. Wonder if that's way the Guy at the starting line was looking at Me.

I'll back,,,,,,missed all the yack'n.

As for a next date and to be at Bremerton, I think we were talking August 18th? Is there TNT on Friday the 17th?

I should have to Nova ready to go by the end of July so a Monroes visut will be required. I'll be on day shift for all of August so Racing will be priority.

George, you tease Mark for running a Q-jet, heck you run a cheasy 600 Holley. Drop a Dp'r on there and run some 14's already,,,,,,

Glad everyone had fun.
