Well it pushin 90 here in Michigan and temps just keep rising on the Temp gauge. Ive got a warmed over 350 that runs hot no matter what i do. Its got a new water pump, radiator cap and 50/50 antifreeze. I was thinking of replacing the radiator with a Griffin or BeCool but its chaper to just buy a Repro 4 core from National parts Depot. What im looking for is your opinion on the best brand of Radiator. Any opinons or advise is appreciated.

How hot is your engine running?
The first thing I would try is putting in a lower temp thermostat. I dropped 20 degrees off my overall temp by going from a 180 to a 160 stat. Temp is right about where I want it now. (190 in traffic, and down to 165 on the highway) That's on a fairly hot day.

definately install a lower temp stat. and it should be fine, my car use to run 230 with the SMALL 21" radiator (2 core) i had a 3 core made and with still only 21" and a 160 thermastat it runs as high as 190* on a HOT day but 170 most of the time, ps. I in TEXAS where it's real hot

Grumpy, go with the 160 thermostat and get rid of the antifreeze and run straight water. There's nothing cool about "coolant" and it does not dissipate heat anywhere near that of straight water.

Nothing wrong with running it at 205 - 210 deg, especially if you have cast iron heads.

70ss, you can run distilled water which will not promote rust as much as tap water. I would also suggest a product such as Redlines Water Weter, it's suppused to have a lubrication in it to make your water pump live longer and your engine run cooler.

Thanks guys I will try the 160 stat. i dont know about straight water though i guess i will try anything to save the 3 to 5 bills for a new radiator. Ive heard from alot a guys that the water wetter is kinda questionable. I played with the timming some and that brought the temp down some maybe i should bump it down alitte more. thanks
