: Advertising Without Price

Why do people advertise stuff and not put a price on it? I personally don't like being a buyer and a seller too, and I don't like playing games. I like the web sites that don't allow advertising without pricing. Keeps things simple for us old guys.

Yep, a lot of "best offer" items in the classifieds here.

This may not be the same thing.. but I can give my personal experience using The 66/67 SS Fact Book advertised on my web page.. I do not list the cost. WHY?

Simple, if I list the price and someone sees the price and thinks it is too much $$ they may move on and I will never know they had interest in at all.. but by not listing the cost, it makes any potential customer have to contact me/inquirer of me, the cost. That is the first step to a sale in my opinion. I will now atleast know how many customers I am not getting due to the cost and I may in the future be able to offer those few who can't afford it.. a SPECIAL DISCOUNT which I do on occassion!

That's my reasoning, but again, it's not like I am selling parts or cars or looking for a Best Offer.

It drives me nuts. I dont shop in stores I cant afford.Whats the sense in advertising if you dont put a price. As for trying to get the most money for an item...... they could list a price + obo

I'm with Andy, I dont even bother with best offer ads. If you want to get the most out of it, put it on ebay.

Even better is when someone puts a ridiculous amount for a piece of junk

If I don't see a price I pass it by. I'm kind of a cheapskate and don't want to waste the time of 2 people (I include myself here) just to say "Thanks, but no thanks". I especially hate it when I ask for a price and I get "How much is it worth to you?". If my response is too low the seller gets indignant and if I offer too much and find out later I could have gotten it for less I'm p*ssed off. Just give a price... I'll either bite or swim on by and no one's time is wasted.

There's a guy in the classified that I called a few times and every time I called on one of his parts with no price he said he had a higher offer elsewhere. Give me a break !!! If you want the top dollar for your parts than take your cheap a$$ to Ebay and sell it there.

Good points
What about the “make an Offer” add guy that gets offended by a low offer.
If you don’t want to be offended list a price.

CharlieXray said it well. I hate the immediate stress I feel when I see something I would like to buy and I don't know the price. In defense of those who may not post a price, a lot of us in this hobby have a hard time knowing what to ask for something. That is the reason that most everything I have sold has been put on ebay.

AMEN! When they don't list the asking price I have found that the price is way too high anyway so I don't waste my time. :noway:

If a part or car doesn't have a price, the seller is usually some dumb ass that thinks he has something special and they just want to talk about themselves, the overpriced part or car they are selling.JMHO and 20 years of experience.

that locks you into the price you lised as top dollar
what about the guy selling, not knowing what it's worth..
should he list it as what he thinks it's worth and have it sold and relisted be the guy that bought it.. for ten times the price the first guy sold it 4.. because the 2nd guy "knows" what it's worth..???
most of us have no idea what they got is worth/or what it'll bring
letting the people that are looking for that idea ..place it's worth.. makes sure you don't "give it away"
and too all that "don't even look at adds with no price..
GOOD, that means I can get it cheaper... ;)
