: 1969 Chevelle SS Dusk Blue
wineldr Jul 13th, 07, 10:53 AM Is this one worth it? Seems to be complete. It's on eBay and on the dealers site. He added more pics on the Dealers site that are not on eBay.

Don_Lightfoot Jul 13th, 07, 11:42 AM From the pictures it appears to be a car of good quality. In quickly looking at the pictures here's a few items I noticed. They are very minor and can be easily fixed if the buyer saw fit to do it.
- Incorrect tires for 69 SS.
- The tailpipes should be tucked up in the quarters better.
- Incorrect shifter handle for bench seat car.
- Incorrect Master Cylinder.
- Cowl grills.
- No A.I.R. smog setup.
- Incorrect valve covers.
Personally, if it were mine, I wouldn't worry about any of the above except to get the exhaust addressed. My own car has some of the same situations (shifter handle, cowl grills, no A.I.R.), All depends on what you would plan for the car and how "absolute" you would like to be with being correct.
One very little thing I would like to note about what the dealer has done here. Notice the plastic around a couple of the pedals and seat belt buckles? Nice little touch to protect them.
If the quality is as good as what the pictures reveal, and the numbers all work out, it is definitely worth $49K in my opinion. Make sure you inspect it in person if you are considering purchase.
Hope this helps Larry.
SS69Chevelle Jul 13th, 07, 11:49 AM It is a very nice looking car. The only thing that bothers me is that the trim tag looks really pristine, almost new. The trim tag body number and sequence number would place the body beginning assembly in 09C not 10C. Possible trim tag/VIN change/alteration??? I'd ask for documentation, just my opinion. take care Andy

Don, thanks for the quick response, much apprecaited. Do you know where I can find pics of the correct:
- shifter handle for bench seat car.
- Master Cylinder.
- Cowl grills.
- Incorrect valve covers.
Don_Lightfoot Jul 13th, 07, 12:31 PM Sure Larry, here you go. The Master Cylinder and Valve Cover are from my car.
The M/C should have the side bleeders.
It's hard to see in the valve cover picture, but the driver's side should have a little clip for the temperature sending unit wire and the back of the driver's side cover has a slight angle to it. Also, the "dimple welds" should be very noticeable. Crane Corvettes are the only ones making the correct valve covers and they are very, very expensive.
The shifter handle picture is from another 69.
The cowl screens should simply not be there for 69 Chevelles.
Gazzer Jul 13th, 07, 12:59 PM Looking at the dealer's web site link, shouldn't the tach redline be
5500 RPM's ?

Good eyes Garry. I don't recall exactly what the L34 redline should be, but I would think it is higher than 5,000 RPM

Hmmm, that is a good one. I did find one other example of 5k redline in a 69 L34 but that doesn't mean much. So that's today's question, what is the redline on a 69 Chevelle with L34 motor?http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-Chevelle-SS396-SS-396-350HP-Numbers-Match-Resto_W0QQitemZ150136574333QQihZ005QQcategoryZ6164 QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If I recall correctly, I believe it should be 5500

Hey Don...A little off topic here....but looking at the chassis pictures on Ebay sure makes me think about doing mine like that.

You've got mail Tony.
SWHEATON Jul 15th, 07, 9:57 AM This car is an exact twin to mine accept mine has buckets but no side strpies or tach.
It also has the wrong ps pump and look closely at the battery because it has one of the cheapo Delco covers on it,and a farily hi $ #'s matching car should have a repop delco IMHO.
Also,i think the 325hp got a 5k redline and the 350hp got the 5500 redline so if thats the case your correct that the tach isnt right either.
But all in all its still a very nice SUPPOSED #'s MATCHING CAR that APPEARS to have had a nice resto done on it and the little things that are wrong can easily be corrected as long as there are not deeper issues of authentisity going on with the car. But they need to move the tailpipes out closer to the edge of the qtr's,they look real strange being in so far as already noted.
Bottom line is if i was to ever interested in buying a car from ebay i would either make the effort to go look at it in person or at the very least spend the $300 to have a professional classic muscle car appraiser check it out before spending 25k-50k for anything. That would have to be a good $300 spent to possibly avoid a huge money disaster IMHO.

oldtimebaseballfan Jul 15th, 07, 11:47 AM That trim tag does look a bit suspect. If I were looking at this car, I would check the VIN and see what month that would have been produced.
The tach should be a 5,000 red line in 1969 with a 350 hp.
