I have a 68 Malibu. I just received my Draglites this week, just mounted the tires, and was ready to put them on when I noticed I had the wrong lugs (1/2 X 20). My question is, do I just wait and order the correct factory lugs (7/16 x 22 correct?) or should I just run down to the local Pep Boys and try and find 1/2 X 20 studs to replace them with? This rear end will be replaced with a 12 bolt, so I don't need 3" just yet.

My questions:

What am I looking for in the shank of the stud, and will this be something that's easy to get my hands on?

Is it worth it?

Thanks as always.

I'd go with the 1/2" just for added insurance.

Is it going to be tough finding 1/2 studs locally (O'Reilly's or Pep Boys) and will I have to drill out the axle flanges to fit them?

I went to a real autoparts store. I think merles auto is a parts plus. But they actually have a book with pictures and measurements. You need to know the size of the knurl on the shank, and the thread size. Probably easiest to knock out a stud and take it down with you. I think the lugs are Dorman. jim

You can also get them through Jegs or Summit.

I decided to wait another weekend and order the 7/16 lugs. No reason to attempt drilling out every hole to fit the larger studs at this point.

Just go down to Napa and get good USA quality studs. They are standard 7/16 x 20. I had a bunch of hassle with the China junk sold at O'Rielly and Autozone. No need to order something from the resto-ripoff places.
