: Anyone look up a Cam for me? Blue racer
SSchevy400 Nov 14th, 03, 10:07 PM When i bought my motor used from a frined the builder said it had a Blue racer 550 lift around 300 duration hydro cam in it. The kid told me it was 575 lift 330 duration. He had 2 cams in it and i think he got them comfused. Can anyone look and see in a cam book and get any info on the blue racer cam thats 550 lift for me? like lobe seperation, ? @.50 all the good stuff. Thanks

SSchevy400 Nov 15th, 03, 1:35 PM Haha, tyanks bill but i already tried that and there are none around 550 lift for the small block unless its a solid lift. I was hoping you actually had a book in your shop or someone did. Even a crane book at that, arnt they almost identical? Thanks Ed
69LS1 Nov 15th, 03, 6:18 PM Actually Crane owns the company that produces the Blue Racer brand of cams...90% of them are not Crane lobes...They are factory OE cams and the " Generic" lobes that Summit and Edelbrock and a zillion others sell.
pdq67 Nov 15th, 03, 9:39 PM My WBR # 90 cat. list's these
Now there is a
300/310, 238/248, 114/109, .544"/.570" solid, PN WG-1056 and a
310/320, 248/258, 110/105, .570"/.595" BB solid cam PN WG-1065.
And a hy- cam PN WG-1055 at
300/310, 234/244, 112/107, .553".578" and another, WG-1057, at
310/320, 244/254, 110/105, .578"/.603".

SSchevy400 Nov 16th, 03, 1:19 AM Thanks everyone, I guess i'm SOL unless i pull my timing chain cover and my gear drive to take a look. I know its a hydraulic so the solids are outta the question and those two grinds that pdq67 gave me were for big blocks, thanks for looking anyway:). Oh well i may have to drop by the builder and see whats his generic cam that he puts in a motor of this type. Thanks again guys!!!
Ed
PS how do these cams differ from say Crane...or Comp? Do they wear faster? cheaper metal? bad grinds?
69LS1 Nov 16th, 03, 2:42 AM Basically the " Generic " grinds are slow easy on parts designes that minimize any warrenty issues...They are also generaly made cheaply....IE as UD Harold has said a good cam is ground on a cam grinder that has one grinding wheel and grindes each lobe seperatly....This takes a fair amount of time and expertise....The cheapies are often ground on a grinder that grinds multiple lobes very quickly...To do an acurate lobe the grinding wheels must me maintained and properly dressed....With multiple wheels and doing long runs of cams they tend to not be as well maintained as they should be...This means that there is likely more errors built into these cams.... Being very consertive lobes to begin with is in some small way a hedge against the stack up of errors that are likely to happen with the mass produced generic cams.... The Generics in general are inexpensive for a reason...A major branded cam like a Crane or whoever tend to be better designed and better ground cams and will likely cost more for a reason.
pdq67 Nov 16th, 03, 5:22 PM Back again..
SB cams..
Hy- cams;
PN WG-1092 at .510"/.510" and
PN WG-1051, .510"/.533".
Solid cams;
PN WG-1053, .485"/.485" , the old 30-30 cam! and
PN WG-989, .493"/.512", the second design, -140 cam!
PN WG-997, .512"/.536.
There aren't any SB cams except solid rollers that are as big as you mentioned and so I figured a BB motor b/c I missed your motor size..

SSchevy400 Nov 16th, 03, 6:38 PM Its ok pdq67 i appriciate the help. Back when i bought the motor i use to have a cataloge from ?crane? i even think it had blue racer on the cover?? hmm i dunno, but when i went threw it they had more selections. with more lift!! I got it from a builder and it was a year old and they sent him new ones every year. Almost like the builders get more selections?? Does that make sense. But i remember there being larger cams for small blocks like where mine was featured. Maybe i'm looking for something i cant find unless i have a builders book again? UGH haha cars are fun huh. I'm just curious to see what kinda pressure i'm bleeding off with my cam...
Thanks again
