i've replaced my 3 wire external alternator with a one wire powermaster 140 amp.
i've disabled the regulator and now need to know how to wire it up so it charges better at idle. i understand i can pig tail the spade wire so it does charge better at idle.
anyone ?
thanks.

What part#? Some can be wired as a 1 or 3 wire.

thanks. See pic below to use a wiring from a originally externally regulated car to a internally regulated 3 wire.

There should be markings on the back of the alternator to show which terminal is which, if there isn't, terminal 1 is always closest to the BAT terminal.

Alternator output wire should be at least a 6g or bigger. See link

After converting to a 3 wire, if you are still having problems charging at idle, it is probably caused by your pulley ratio. Even the biggest alternator won't charge at idle if the pulley ratio is incorrect. See link
