Short answer is no. The richmond 6-speed is much larger than the factory 4-speed. To maintain the correct driveline angle you would need to cut up the factory trans tunel.

In a word, no. And, there is no way it will work with a factory 4-speed console! I put one in my 65 El Camino (original 4-speed w/o console) and I had to cut and remove the the rear four inches of the tunnel shifter hump and move it rearward about an inch, trim the floor opening a little to clear the 6-spd shifter bracket, then weld in some one inch wide strips of sheet metal to fill the gap (hope that presents a clear mental picture for you!!!). The crossmember will have to be moved rearward approximately 3.80" and your emergency brake cable hook that goes into the crossmember shortened about the same amount. My tunnel had to be massaged a bit for the 3-4 shift rod when I installed the ROD 5-speed and no further work was required in that respect when I changed to the 6-speed. Very minimal tunnel massaging! The particular Richmond I ordered was p/n 7021626JB with 3.04:1 first, 2.13:1 second, 1.57:1 third, 1.24:1 fourth, 1.00:1 fifth and 0.81:1 sixth. It set me back a little over $2800.00 last fall. With 3.07 rear gears and 25.75" tall rear tires (285/40ZR17's) I'm running a little over 2200 RPM at 65 mph and the RPM drop between the gears is perfect (no big drops anywhere).

I was going to go the T56 route but by the time I bought a new D&D Viper unit modified for the Chevy, disassembled it and installed the RSG 5th/6th gear with new mainshaft (better overdrive ratios) the price was well over $3600.00 and I still had to tear up the tunnel, move the crossmember and cut the driveshaft. The T56 is a much slicker shifting transmission and will handle every bit as much abuse as the Richmond but for me the ROD was an easier install.

Hope this helps!

I would stay away from the 6 speed if you plan to do any racing. A friend ran the richmond 5 speed it worked great but he wanted the OD so he sold me the 5 speed, put the 6 speed in and it didnt shift worth a hoot, he had the Long shifter and even had it worked over by a very reputable transmission company {i just cant think of the name} but with no improvement. He just put in the new TKO600 and it shifts great.
