I have a pair of sportsman II heads and i'm upgrading to dual 1.45 springs. I had pc seals put on the the boss's i believe cut for them. My question is do i need any machine work to put these springs on. I got a call from the machine shop and the machinist said the end springs hang off alittle. I looked at my brothers stock 2.02 heads and his dual springs hang off the edges alittle too. Any imput would be appriciated. The shop guy kind of gave my the impression he doesnt' know what he's talking about. I read the sheet on the heads and it says the seats are machined for 1.25 and 1.55 springs.

Larger springs will hang off the pads a bit. I'm using 1.45" springs and had not had any problems. If you shim the springs (highly recommended to help support the spring where it hangs off), be sure to use hardened shims. With the pockets sized for 1.55" springs, smaller springs will move around and tear up non-hardened shims.

http://www.compcams.com/Technical/CurrentCatalog/HTML/356.asp part # 4784 should work although not optimum. 4704 also might. Other cam companies have something similar; but there's not a real big choice out there for your combo.
