: Perfomance Questimations
KaiserLT1 Jan 26th, 05, 8:13 PM Ok, I know there are a million factors that are gonna influence this, but was wondering if you guys could give me some performance estimations on my 72 Chevelle.
In it, there is an LT1 out of a 1995 Corvette. It will have ported LT4 heads, custom cam (2000-6300 rpm), 3000 stall in a 4L60E tranny. Out back is a 3.73 12-bolt posi w/ 275/60's tires. The engine guy said my motor will be making close to 500 HP at the flywheel with a flat torque curve.
The LT1 is in its first stages for the upgrades so I was just wondering what you guys think it might do. Thanks!
Nickel333 Jan 26th, 05, 9:19 PM Is he going to dyno it for you? If not mention that you "may" want it dyno'ed and then mention that 500 hp figure, see what happens. I think thats a bit of a strech. Who in Iowa is doing it for you?
KaiserLT1 Jan 26th, 05, 9:30 PM The guy who I'm gonna get to do the work is Lloyd Elliot in Texas. He's a pro and getting LT1's to go fast- www.eportworks.com (http://www.eportworks.com)
There's much more to the motor mods that I listed such as PCM tuning, TB, 1.6 roller rockers, etc. With everything, he claims close to 500HP at the flywheel, and upon my research, that goal should be easily reached.

My brother has a 396ci LT1 with a Comp Cams 306 and well ported heads that is only making ~500hp. That engine was built by More Performance which is well known in the LT1/LS1 community. I think 450 is a more reasonable goal, IMO.
KaiserLT1 Jan 26th, 05, 9:36 PM Here is the package.
Head/cam package will pull from 2,300 to 6,500 RPM and should make *400 – 420 RWHP with 30/36 lb. injectors, 58 MM T.B., 1 ¾ LT’s, no cats, good tuning, etc. This will have an idle similar to the CC306 cam but will make more HP & TQ across the board. The REAL difference is the amount TQ this cam makes in the 2,500 – 3,500 RPM range compared to the CC306.
And that is porting an LT1 head. I'll have higher flowing LT4 heads.
orange2 Jan 26th, 05, 9:59 PM If it was an ls1, maybe. Troy swear has told me about this car, good luck getting 500, but don't think it will happen.
KaiserLT1 Jan 26th, 05, 10:02 PM Orange 2 -
You heard about this car?
As far as HP goes 450-500 is very doable on non-stroked LT1's. Just depends on how extreme you want to go and how deep your pockets are. 500 Peak HP is not a problem, just go with a bigger cam. Lloyd says this about the cam we're considering "A lower shift point (6200 RPM) would move the TQ curve down and make a lil more TQ below 3000 RPM. This is gonna cost us about 10-15 HP on top so we would probably be in the 460-480 FWHP range but the car would still be fast" Another option is that I put 2.05/1.6 Ferrera valves in, with that, a peak of 500 HP+ is not a prob. All with good tuning of course.
orange2 Jan 26th, 05, 10:11 PM Yea used to live in thompson, now buffalo center and troy was saying some kid and his dad put a lt1 in a chevelle, said its a real nice car, just assumed it is your car. i think i have seen it.
KaiserLT1 Jan 26th, 05, 10:20 PM K, yeah, I know Troy
I'm not too far from Buffalo Center so maybe we know eachother or atleast know the same people smile.gif
orange2 Jan 26th, 05, 10:21 PM are you going to have it runnin this summer, thinking about putting some cruises together around the area. getting to be alot of nice old cars around, thought it might be fun and if nothing else keep the tire dealers happy. How old are you? Do you know brunzy(chris)?
KaiserLT1 Jan 26th, 05, 11:28 PM Yeah, I'm definately hoping to have it done this summer. It all depends on if i can get all the funds together. I planned this as a project with not much of a timeline, so it could or could not take a while. Getting more cruises in the area would be great! I try to make all of them I can. I attended a few last year. Definately keep me posted. I'm 26. I know who Chris is. Doubt he really knows me. He's a few years older, but FC is pretty small so everyone usually knows everyone.
orange2 Jan 27th, 05, 12:14 AM I grew up in buffalo center, i am 33. was just up in the u.p. sledding with brunzy and ten other guys. My name is troy also. I was riding bike this summer with jr schuegger watching him ride mile long whelies on his f4, and some kid on an r6 was doing them too. Hopefully the cruise idea works out, a friend of mine just bought a 69 z that had a 454 in it with everything, he took that out and is putin a 502 in it, swears got his chevelle running and brunzy always has something around. The cruise after the thompson car show got pretty wild 2 years ago, thought maybe a once or twice a month cruise would be fun.

- I sent you a PM
427L88 Jan 27th, 05, 9:34 AM Sir, I wouldn't get stuck on a number. I make that number at 6700 rpm with a 439 ci motor. Not doubting you, but the grand arbiter of all this dyno c4ap is the dragstrip. IF it runs low 12s, or mid 11s you got it. Good luck!
KaiserLT1 Jan 27th, 05, 11:07 PM Low 12's or mid 11's would be spectacular. Not real confident I can reach that goal, but I'll give it a shot. I know what you mean by not getting stuck on a peak HP # thats why we're going for a more low/mid range torque number. Its not going to be a high revving motor. In time, I plan on stroking it out to a 383, whenever i got 3 grand burning a hold in my pocket smile.gif
