: Pretty '66 Chevelle SS.
Harold Sutton Jul 9th, 07, 3:36 PM I just finished looking at the picture of your '66 SS and love it. I have been crazy about that color for 41 years now. I had a 442 Oldsmobile of the same vintage and always thought the color to be was the prettiest one i ever owned. If i could pass on any piece of advise it would be to never sell any car you love as you can always make them faster. P.S... Sorry i forgot to mention it was "CDN SS's" Aztec Bronze '66 Chevelle SS.
troutdog Jul 9th, 07, 3:48 PM Yep, you know that is true...
Slowpoke70 Jul 9th, 07, 3:49 PM Might help to state who you're talking to.

Your's is very pretty also but the one i was refering was the car in CDN SS's signature and Oldsmobile called the color Autumn Bronze. I really may have gotten too much sun on Friday!!! :D

CDN SS Jul 9th, 07, 11:25 PM Saw the post and wondered who would have a " Pretty " 66 ....seriously Harold Thanks for the kind words ...... that one year only color for GM certainly attracts alot of people ......have to admit alot of "old" people seem to remember the color but never knew what it was called but do like it , especially women ...... When I owned this car the first time in the 60's did not like the color .painted it Maroon .....

Every old "kid" who had a good car probably wishes he also had the wisdom to have kept it. I still have the '67 Chevelle that followed the Olds, but it's not the same. Oddly enough the color was available on the '67 Corvette.

You can just paint one like I did. I understand completly how you feel. I'm on my third Aztec Bronze car :D
And yes, CND's car is beautiful:thumbsup:
troutdog Jul 10th, 07, 11:49 PM Harold, I don't know how your first post made since to me, but it did :). I just read it again and didn't understand :). I see now tho... :beers:
We just get on here and blurt some gibberish, makes us feel better,,, :clonk:

67 Vette color ........ I know the color your refferring too .a 67 here in that color I dont beleive its the same .......similar yes but not the same when you see side by side not the same Vette more brown ...yes the Olds , big Chevy's , Nova's & including Corvairs had Aztec Bronze .AZ is so difficult to get correct you see many variations from too brown to too maroon my Thanks to Dupont Labs & Randy Kirker who did a lot of work to develop the formula I used to replicate the original hue in BCCC ..... Also it really changes color in different lighting ......
The color gets the car alot of attention few look at the drivetrain and suspension under the car where the real work is
SoCal Bryan Jul 11th, 07, 12:57 AM Man, I love that color! My 66's body tag indicates Aztec Bronze, but I guess somewhere down the road it got changed. Someday I think I'll change it back.
427L88 Jul 11th, 07, 6:36 AM Aw Brian, do so. And get with Bill or Randy ( a local guy) to get the codes. The color is AWESOME, and No Harold wasnt drinkin' just DREAMIN"! The Aztec does that to ya!
Randy just got his redone by Legendary Motors up in ON.
1966_L78 Jul 11th, 07, 11:45 AM Back in the late 1980's, I bought my convertible which was a faded, dull Aztek Bronze... I wasn't sure if I liked the color. Then before I painted it I went to a regional show and there was an identical car there (same interior and a convertible too), and it was very nice. Ended up in a few magazines (had those '68 Mopar side-lights)
But I figured I didn't want to "compete" or have people compare my car to that one, so I painted it Artesian Turquoise. Up until that time, I had seen very few that color, and I like it too... Of course, a few years later I ended up going with Marina Blue...
Now i have my wagon, original Aztek car(with crappy repaint), but I am debating (IF I keep the wagon) to paint it Aztek or a different color... Its not original... It also has the two-tone Fawn interior which isn't my favorite...
Yeah, everytime I see Bill's car (CDN SS), I just love it...

Tony you know what I would do if that wagon was mine ....:)And yes it could have been mine if I got my act together not a fan of Fawn either BUT it looks great with Aztec Bronze .......is the dash and interior door metal fawn or Bronze ?
1966_L78 Jul 11th, 07, 12:30 PM And yes it could have been mine if I got my act together [/B]not a fan of Fawn either BUT it looks great with Aztec Bronze .......is the dash and interior door metal fawn or Bronze ?
The interior metal is "Fawn" (kind of a goldish-color for those not familiar).
I had thought of trying to go with a Bronze interior, but not sure how hard to get door panels/seat covers in Bronze. I don't think wagons were available new with "Bronze" interiors, and the door panels/seat covers are different from Hardtops... Might be able to "order" repros in Bronze though...
Of course, the two-tone does look nice when new, and really helps break up that big interior. All bronze might be too much...
Still could be yours... Its not going anywhere anytime soon (unless someone buys it as-is)...
Of course, I have seen a few "cheap" El Caminos recently, so maybe I'll get back into creating the '66 2-door wagon...

The color gets the car alot of attention few look at the drivetrain and suspension under the car where the real work is Another thing i noticed about your car that few other people might notice is you have 427 emblems on the fender, or at least they have a red background, the original 396 emblems had a black background. My car originally had one of each.
frankf72malibu Jul 11th, 07, 6:37 PM I agree with Harold, it is a beautiful car and that is a nice color CDN SS.

Thanks everyone for the compliments .it was a long 4 years doing the build but now startting to enjoy it ....... just got my 15 x 9 Weld wheels for my slicks to-day so should get to track pretty soon
Harold the car is an original 396 360 HP 4 spd car .so it did have black flags ..... I still have the numbers motor and trans but when i owned car the first time I always wanted a 427 so when I got car back decided to restore it but with some mods that would not ruin originality ....... built a real 427 with real GM cowl plenum air cleaner stuff I only dreamed of as a kid but I could not afford , hence the engine & 427 red flags someday will put back the original engine / trans

It appears yours has been redone in Candy Apple Red. The 2 dr. sedan body style is much more rare than the hardtop. It's a really nice car the way it is too.
