When replacing pistons on a previously balanced rotating assembly, would it be necessary to have this assembly re-balanced if the new pistons weigh 24 grams more each than the old ones??

Just to be on the safe side I would. When replacing the same set of rods or pistons I dont. But a heavier set will cause it to be out of balance. Sean

Without question I would, especially when the pistons are heavier.
I don't mind "over balance" but not a big fan of not enough counterweight.

Hi Bill, there's always a chance you coud substitute a lighter wrist pin. We do this quite often. Most times some "small" amount of weight can be removed also from the pistons. If you can get 5 or 10 off there and sub the pins it'll save much work!!!

I've said it many times here, it helps to post the specific part numbers to be more help!

Not sure what you're working with, but there's a variety of pin sizes AND weights available.

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. Just as an example with BB pins in the "standard" .990" x 2.930" configuration, they come in 130, 138, 146, 154, and 179. Obviously you won't need the heavier, but there is an assortment. Got to know the application?
