Hi all,
Trying to figure out how to get the the compression ratio figured out on my 454. Looking at all sorts of fun stuff but some of the things I can't seem to find are this.
What is the measurement of a 60 over bore?
What is the head gasket thickness of just regular Felpro head gaskets?
Head gasket bore diameter? shouldnt that match the engine bore size?
How so I figure out piston to deck clearance?
Ok forgive me if these are stupid questions but I couldn't find anything using search.

Hey (assuming) Joe,
Well, i understand where you are coming from, heck we are neighbors to. I am in Modesto all the time!
The measure of a .060 overbore 454 would be 4.310 inches. The factory bore is 4.250 so just add your .060
Standard head gasket thickness for most bbc stuff is .039, but at the same time they vary and it is a must to check before you start basing things on that measurement. You can check by the part number on the gasket.
The head gasket bore diameter doesnt have to exactly match the bore diameter, it is supposed to be a little larger.
The piston to deck clearance is the distance from the top of the piston at TDC not including the dome, to the top of the cylinder. There are a couple of different ways of measuring this, but i am no expert. I would say put a flat bar or something across the deck of the block, bring a piston up to TDC, then use feeler gauges just for a rough idea of where you are. There are other ways to do it with magnetic bases and dial indicators, but i don't have any of those...

Thanks for the reply Daniel,
You got the name right figured I would make it easy. I did find a few things on the Keith Black website that gave me what I needed for the deck height. That was kind of nice, thanks for the info on the gasket. Tried finding something on Felpro's site, that was interesting. Looks like I will be running KB 3cc Flat tops to get the static CR that I want to run. Now to pick out a cam :D
Thanks,
Joe
