Hi guys, I am open all opinions on this set up in my buddies 87 drag only firebird. He has been through some changes recently with is car. It was running some 6.40-6.70's in the 8th.

He wants to step up his setup. The cam is what his engine builder recommended, this time. I feel a little different about it myself.

Here is the spec of the car and engine currently.
476 ci (.100 over)
13.5 : 1 cr
119 cc Brodix Race Rite heads with .800 Manley Nextek springs/titanium retainers.
The
heads flow 342 cfm intake and 229 exhaust at .700 lift (28" H2O)
Comp 11-734-9 cam (278/286 @ .50 with .748/714 lift)
850 Holley on alcohol
car weighs 2905 without me, 3155 with me
5.14 gear
14/32 rear tires (104" roll out)
1.76 powerglide
9" 4500 stall convertor

I would like a nice UD/lunati solid roller to get him going in the right direction. He had an ole Herber solid roller in it recently, with some comp lifters. Needless to say. We all know what happened.

Now, after turning the crank and flushing the block from all the metal fragments that came from his new custom grind solid/flat tappet roller cam. He wants to run a little faster :D

Thanks guys on any input that you all can provide.

Everett,

I have a new 310/318(measured at .016"!) that is 277/285 at .050, 199/207 at .200, and .708"/.708" gross valve lift, .690"/.690" net valve lift.
It is so new it does not have a part number yet, but I have sold some just on looks..... People go into shops where one is being installed, and say, "I want a cam JUST like that one".
YOur Comp Cams 11-734-9 is the 313-6/322-3, with 189/190 at .200. How does 10° at .200 on the intake and 17° on exhaust sound? Lots of torque and BHP all around. This cam is part of my Super-K series, more to follow.
I'd probably use a 110 LSA, with the cam in anywhere from 103° to 106° ATDC.
You have to be careful with alcohol. ANY flattening-out of power on the top-end means the carb is running out of fuel, and you need to decrease your main-pill size, to keep more alcohol at the carb....

Thanks for your Quick Reply on the cam recommendations. Mr. Brookshire.

My buddy loves the sound of your Cam in my street car. The both of us would want to see what kind of times his new engine combination will run with all the "right parts" now.

I will keep everyone posted our progress.
Thanks
