: Electric choke tuning...

Not sure exactly where to post this..

I am going to be putting on a '77 Q-jet with an electric choke on my car Saturday. It's the kind of choke on the carb, not a divorced choke. Anyway, does anyone have any tips on setting this? I see you can turn the cap to left for richer and right for leaner (or vice versa, not looking at it at the moment.), but unsure if I should start in the middle and then how to tell which direction I need to turn to tune better. Thanks.

I would just set it in the middle. If you need to have the choke on (closed) longer then turn it towards richer. If you want the choke to fully open faster, then turn it towards leaner. I guess it just depends on what your car likes when it is cold. Make sure it fully opens though no matter what setting you have. Good Luck!

Taylor,

Make sure the tang on the electric choke coil engages the choke lever inside that round housing. Then once you get the cover back on, you'll notice two hash marks, a big hash mark, then two more hash marks. Go with the big hash mark, drive it for a day or two, then go leaner one mark at a time till the cold driveability degrades a little.

I generally run mine two marks clockwise (lean) past the big middle mark, but then again, I like my choke to come off fairly early.

You probably know this, but don't run the gasket under the choke cover. You won't get a ground, and your choke won't fully open.
