Of course, the step ladder for trunk access is a bonus. :D

That was cool in the 60's and early 70's.
My old 69 Chevelle sat just about as high.

I had a set of M50-15's on the back and H70-14's on the front.

I remember when mine was real high in the rear too. I would have to lean over to see in the trunk. I would never have my tires sticking out like that though.

I saw a 70 mach one that had the SAME thing done to it! I dislike mustangs but that thing was just to distasteful!

Brings back many memories. Mickey Thompson M50-15 rear and G60-14 front on a 69 GTX 440 6. May not be the ideal racing setup by I still like it. Nostalgia and all.

When I bought my old 68 SS/RS 396 Camaro..it had 15x10 Cragars on the rear with N50-15's hanging a few inches out of fenders.

Man, all you needed was air shocks and extensions or some new shackles!!

Way COOL!!

My favorite year and all I can say is well...oh, never mind I'll keep it to myself.

I drove a 66 back in 1983 jacked up almost that high but the tires never stuck out that far...:noway:

The bonus is, those ladder bars lock up the suspension geometry, so all his buddies can ride in the back seat with no fear of tire rub. I had a pair of those ladder bars on the El Camino back in the late 80's. Had all of 1" suspension travel. Never again. :noway:

Call me old fashioned, but I still dig that look on some cars(the car sitting up plenty high in back..... but not the tires hanging out a foot.....that part of it is not for me)

He's got the car AND his blond girlfriend looking out of the passenger door is kinda cute too. :p. Any bets on a mullet?

Well, if there can be a good thing to say . . . . . at least he didn't clobber up the car by cutting big wheel wells in the quarter panels to clear the tires.

My first car, 67 SS Chevelle, was like that. That is the way it was in late 70's early 80's.

N15x50's on 15x10 Cragars. The funny thing is, I never had any wheel hop. It hooked no problem...

I just hope the owner isn't a member here. I know I'm pretty sensitive about my car, especially mods I make that I like. I like the car, I wish mine was in as good as shape as that looks.
I'd rather see a car up in the air like that than one hacked up for tubs. I love Cartoons magazines and Roth drawings.
Do you have any more pictures of the car? I would love to see some.

I went through that phase as well.

Yes. That does indeed bring back many memories from the early 80's. Several friends were sporting the same look. N-50-15's!!!

M50-14's here, air shocks, stink bug look, broken shock mounts eventually on a 66 SS396 4 speed.

No Mac, unfortunately I don't have any more pictures. I wish I could have gotten better perspective because I don't think the picture does the height of the rearend justice. The bumper was as high as my chest, which is why I took the picture.
But I have to admit that when I was 16 I had a 70 Malibu that I also put N50-14's on with airshocks jacked up to the max for clearance. One day I was driving down the road and the airshock line rubbed through and you can imagine the rest.
If the guy IS on this site, all I can say is, very nice cool car, I really like it. But DAMN MAN, the 70's called, and they want that style back.
:beers:

I had a 74 Nova in High School that had the old N-50s on 15X10 Cragars, air shocks/extentions and shackles. I have pictures somewhere but not on the computer. It was hard fitting those on a half wheel well type car. My car looked crazy and I know that. Plus it slung mud rocks and water all over the place. I hated those tires after just a little while.
Those are some big azz tires on that Chevelle. Too big for me but I don't mind a muscle car being up in the air and having the tires stick out a little. I hate tubbed cars. I don't think too many guys will argue that the 70's style was a lot cooler than the 80's rainbow craphics and aero scoops.
What I'm shooting for on my 66 Camino is to make it look like something built in the early 70's. I love the style. My car is gonna be way up in the air, I have ladder bars and big n little slots. On down the road it may even get a straight axle. :)-

I am planning on fitting all my tire under the rear wheelwell though.

Yep, looks cool if done right. That 66 is WAY up there.

I only had to use spring loaded shocks to keep it up there. The front end had aluminum spring spacers. It eventually did damage to the frame, and cracked it.

i had a buddy who had a 79 firebird he bought when it was 6 months old. it had big cragars in the back sticking out somewhat and a triangular wieand air filter sticking out of the hood. he was a body man so he rolled the edge of the hood around it. believe it or not the car looked good. he had 4 engines in the car in less than a year but the last one was an 11 to 1 big port 427 with an old edelbrock tarantula and an 800 cfm holley. he had a new t 10 and 456 gears with the biggest crane hydraulic cam he could get with rhoads lifters. anyway it was a good combination because he drove it everywhere. with slicks and open exhaust the car ran 11.97 @118 in its only trip to the strip in 82. i dont think anyone outran it on the street

Im sure he has it jacked up so you can see that he spent $14.95 on that chrome rear cover. All it needs now is some "Keep on Truckin" mud flaps  . I would have also painted the ladderbars chevy orange :D

I'm a younger guy (25 now) and I have to say I love that style. My 71 has air shocks in the back and I love to raiser her up as far as she'll go. I'm a tall guy and the bigger the better. It just looks down right intemidating. I'm sorry I missed the 70's, but I would have loved it.

My '68 looked just like that back in the early '80's.

back then, If we had seen a car lowered, with big wheels tucked up in the fenders, we would have laughed so hard beer would have poured out our noses. :D
