I do love the look of a cowl induction hood...to a point. Some of these things just look way too big to me, so I'm thinking that a 2" cowl would look about right on my '72. I am trying to determine the difference between an "SS" hood and a "cowl induction hood". I've seen reference to both but don't know the difference. Can anyone point me in direction of some pictures? Also, should I stay away from fiberglass hoods?
Thanks!
Chris

The cowl induction hood starts life as an SS hood, but adds a flapper on the outside and inside of the hood.

The outside flapper door is controlled by manifold vacuum (opens as you lose vacuum), the inside flapper door is electric controlled by the switch on the gas pedal.

the stock cowl hood is about 2" with what i call a step up. a cowl induction is the same exept at the back there is a flapper, or vent that opens when you floor it. just like mark said. sounds to me you are looking at aftermarket hoods. to me fiberglass is not the way to go, becouse those hinges are to strong for it. when you close it from the front edge it will pretty much break in half.i traded my cowl hood for a flat one, and this is what i did.http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y291/ford-six/?action=view&current=100_0235.jpg
