Hey guys I suspect a vac leak,
If I have oil film in the plenum can this be either a carb baseplate gasket leak or a intake gasket leak??
Thanks

Do you have a PCV system? If you do make sure the valve cover has some sort of a baffle so you don't suck oil in.

I do have a PCV system but perhaps it is faulty?? I can take a pic, perhaps the PCV components are at fault..I am just wondering too if the cause of the oil can be from a baseplate gasket leak OR a intake manifold leak. I am hoping the baseplate because it is a easier fix.

Here are some pics. The breather is pretty old at least 7 years.

I guess my way of thinking on this is that if you have oil in the plenum you could have a vacuum leak. I was wondering that the source of the leak could be either of the gaskets therefore producing the oil film.

pull the PCV out of the valve cover, look in the hole, stick your finger in there. there should be some sort of baffle structure inside to keep oil from sucked up into the PCV. If there's not there's PCV V/C grommets that have a baffle built in , probably find at SUmmit. Looks like a rubber cylinder hanging from the bottom of the grommet.

Hello Tom,
I think the Eldelbrock valvecovers I have use a internal baffle structure.
These seem to be them. I will confirm tonite, perhaps the breather is malfunctioning or maybe it is a vac leak??
Here is a description.
Back to the basics with some triple chrome plating.
Edelbrock's Signature series chrome valve covers are engineered for function and styled for good looks. They're triple chrome plated for long lasting good looks, and have stock-style breather baffles that prevent oil passage to the PCV valve. These quality valve covers accept all emissions equipment, including PCV valves, and include rubber grommets for the breather and PCV valve holes. The covers clear most aluminum rocker arms and moderate lift cams. They come in a high-profile design that's 1 1/4 in. taller than stock, and clears most roller rockers and valvetrain components, and a low-profile design that clears air conditioning and alternator brackets.
