I've got one for the 1/4 mile estimating gurus here. What would you guesstimate that a 1970 Chevelle in full trim would do in the 1/4 mile with a GMPP zz572 and T56 six speed manual trans? You can assume a well tuned suspension, but not tubbed or back-halfed, etc. You can also use whatever rear gear you want, but something street friendly... like in the 3.55 - 4.10 range (I'm not sure what would be best with this combo for 50/50 street/strip duty).
Quick Specs
Horsepower 720 SAE @ 6250 RPM
Torque 685 Ft. Lbs. @ 4500 RPM
Max. Recommended RPM 6750 RPM
Compression Ratio 12:1

If you don't like the T56, then guess with a built 4L80E. I'm considering this for my restification... not looking for comments on bang for the buck or lack thereof.
Thanks.

Assuming traction...
mid 10's easily at 131 w/6 speed, 127 w/auto.
Got a little bit more HP and same TQ at same peaks as my 540.
Traction WILL be an issue, obviously. I've been fighting that problem all this year.

Never had my motor dynoed, but I think it makes somewhere around that. I think its possible
454 +.030"
11.5:1 compression
1050HP dominator
.660" Solid Roller Cam
Dart 310cc Heads
See signatures for best ETs...Like Bill said traction will be an issue. I am running my current combo on 30x10.5Rx15 Hoosier Slicks with the Radial Sidewall, I plan on switching to a M/T Bias tire once these wear out to get the car to be a little more consistent. This is all in a 3700# chevelle

Thanks guys. That's in the neighborhood of what I was thinking as well - low 10's. Still working on the teardown and bodywork... but was thinking that this combo could be really fun on the street (esp w/ the 6 speed)... EFI and maybe even do a mini-tub. The thought brings a big smile to my face anyways. smile.gif
Yea, I can believe there will be traction issues. If I do go this route, I may look into electronics to pull some power out until off the line and partially down the track.
Any idea's if a T56 can take 700hp/tq?
Thanks.

The viper ones can.. But they don't all. I am not sure how hard the swap would be, but I have seen a couple cars at super chevy over the last few years that have a viper t56 in them, I have an auto so I didn't ask many questions.
