ive just finished installing my roll bar and the corbeau legacy seats today. i need to mount my simpson 5 pts to the cross bar behind the seat. i have the v belt set up and could figure out a way to mount them, but i want to do it properly. the simpson instructions were no help although it looks like they go over the top of the bar and then mount to the underside. if anybody could give me a good description or even a pic i would appreciate it. also i know that the lap belts cannot just be bolted in because the belt and mounting portion need to be lined up. mine do not have the clip in mounting portion so i cannot attach it to an eyebolt, or at least i dont think that i can. how can i mount these?

any help would be appreciated,

Tim

hello i dont know the ihra legal stuff on it however i have the rci belts in my car and i just wrapped the shoulder belts around the main crossbar as i have seen in many cars i dont feel that this is a bad way to do it and i feel real secure when i sit in the car so until someone lets us know the legistics on it i would recommend that

from what i understand there are two different styles of belts that mount to the roll bar. you have one which is the wrap around and i have the v-belt. i just have one long belt so that both shoulder harness belts are of the same piece. it comes to a v and is folded over and stiched. there is also a metal piece that is stiched into the v. it has a bolt hole and is where it is supposed to be attached. i dont have any way of just wrapping the belt around the bar as some belts do.
does anyone have a Vbelt?
Bryan- how did you attach the lap belts or did you just do it like me?

I welded a triangular shaped tab to the crossbar. This tab is oriented vertically. The tab has a hole in it, as does the tab at the end of the shoulder "V" in the belt. Use a grade 8 bolt to secure.

hoffbug- that is how i thought of doing it, but is it legal? i thought that the belt had to be in line with the tab just as it does on the lap belt. am i wrong? if so that would be easy to do. just to make sure, you tab is welded vertically pointing towards the roof right? which way is the belt tab pointed. is it pointing towards the roof or is it pointed towards the bar?

I have the stock bench seat in my car. The tab on the rollbar is pointing toward the roof. It passes NHRA tech.
The interior side of the lap belt is mounted in the stock location on the driveshaft tunnel. My chassis guy made some double eared brackets for the exterior lap belt mounts. The bracket mounts into the stock holes where the belt retractor was, and the end of the belt itself mounts between the double ears. He also made an "L" shaped bracket for the submarine belt mount. We drilled through the floorpan to mount this bracket. I hope this makes sense... Sorry I dont have any good pictures of it.

i contacted simpson and they didnt have any pics or drawings to send to me. the guy briefly described what i had been thinking, but im still looking for pics if anybody has them.

also i made custom brackets to mount the new corbeau seats and the seats ended up about a 1/2 inch from the roll bar. is there any rule saying that this is too close. ive seen pics of seats like 10 inches away. im 6'5" so this was the most comfortable.

thanks, Tim
