Just install my new Summit Cam (Sum-1102) & had my 461 heads port/polish for my 283, also change the head gasket to a shim .015 to give me a .040 quench. Thanks: Pat Kelly
Now the big question when adjust the valves use the method below do you turn it 360* after lash or 180*. I set it at 360* but im thinking about backing out it 180* to ensure that I dont wipe a lobe on break-in. This is my perfreed method of setting lash.

1. Get #1 piston to compression TDC, Cam gear at 12 o'clock crank gear at 12 o'clock.
2. Adjust the intake valves on cylinders 1, 2, 5, & 7 by loosening the rocker nut until play is in the pushrod then just take the up and down play in the pushrod and tighten the rocker nut 360 degrees
3. Adjust the exhaust valves on 1, 3, 4, & 8 in the same manner.
4. Rotate crank 360 degrees to get cylinder #6 to compression TDC, Cam gear at 6 o'clock and crank gear at 12 o'clock.
5. Adjust the intake valves on 3, 4, 6, & 8 in mentioned manner
6. Adjust the exhaust valves on 2, 5, 6, & 7
All is done on a cool engine at room temperature

So the big question is after lash has been set with the pushrod just engage in the lifter with no up and down movement do I go with 1 full turn or 1/2 turn ? I have the intake and timing cover off so that I can see the position of the sprocket dots while adjusting.

Deebo,
You will get a hundred different answers as to how much lifter preload to run. If you plan on running the engine at higher rpm's say up to 6500-7000, then I would run very little preload, say 1/8 turn. If it is a street engine that will rarely see 4000 rpm, then 1 full turn will be fine. The less preload you run, the less room the lifter has to "pump up" at high rpms, possibly hanging a valve open. The more preload you run, the more everything can wear before you will need to adjust the valves. Its a compromise in between. On 99% of the engines we do we set them at 3/4 turn, if that helps any.

On hydraulics I go 1/4 turn after lash, I lashed my sons valves last time with the intake off and just adjusted the valves that were on the base circle of the cam, moving pushrod up and down til zero lash then 1/4 turn...didnt have to worry about turning til this valve does that and so on. Then I adjusted the valves after we got it running and I could believe how close to perfect they were graemlins/thumbsup.gif
