My ride weighted down and de-tuned to run 11.0's

This is what happened tonight...

10 weeks old ATI Competition TH400 Full manual forward valve body. in First gear it felt like the emergency brake was on struggling to move the car forward, chattered a little and then broke free. This happened about 4 times....Now when placed in first gear I only have 2nd gear and then 3rd.

And, why would the car not go down the track straight, This is the second time I have had trans trouble this season and both times I was all over the track when making a pass...Coincidence ???? My car runs straight as an arrow (when the track is dry...anyway)

Help, Now I have 2 transmissions sitting here in need of a rebuild and Bracket Finals Next Week... I do have my Buick but it will only go 15's I think, I have never run it. It just got back from the body shop and has had nothing done to it yet for performance..At least I am in street class and it's 12.00 to 19.99.

Talk about a bad luck streak - Finished 2nd in Points anyway.....a good year on a whole.

Brian,
How many trans has Ed been through in the last 2 seasons?
Who builds them?

Tom,
Build your own...

Sounds like a low sprag went south if I were to make a WAG.

Spinning then hooking may be part of the problem with your failures.

Kinda like wheel hop to a rear end, the lack of traction unloads the sprag, then when it hooks it reloads the sprag.

If that is the cause of your current failure, find a 1965-66 TH400 reaction carrier. It uses the actual sprag type element, somewhat rare piece obviously...
Then use the HD aftermarket 45 element sprag from a Ford E4OD trans.

This will prevent failures, it is what I try to use on big HP or transbrake units.

goes without saying to use the early or 4L80 drum and 34 element intermediate sprag.

I would recommend Chris of CKPerformance in your area.
He makes an aluminum direct drum with a 42 element sprag!!
He can build you a GOOD unit at a reasonable price. He's in NYC.

i wouldnt consider steve any less of a transmission builder because of the two problems, the first was last year after the trans had 700 something passes on it.

And once again you people forget that Ed puts 300+ passes on the car per season, thats 300+ 1.36-1.38 (Typically) 60ft's moving 3860lbs.
