I'm at work....Day 38 of my deployment to N Fort Lewis for the Warrior Forge ROTC Camp. Not working hard but I'm here....not in my garage putting on the new inner for the Elky....still gotta put the new spark plugs into the Vette.

FLINK, thanks for the tip the other day on the 454 shortblock....really don't need another engine at this time. Somehow, gotta piece that 'new' Charity Nova together....get it outa Darryl's compound and off Tammy's Radar Scope.
Hope to check out the Nova parts assortment of local dude Clarence, "Mr Nova" swap my extras for what I need.

George, I figured for $250 a 4 bolt with crank and rods was a good deal for someone. Anyhow, I will be slapping in my new Carter 172 fuel pump this morning and getting my slicks mounted on rims and make sure they fit. I will post a pic when I do get them on...

Sitting here waiting to see if my inlaws want to see the beach or the inlet and finalizing plans for the TKO install.

I was told yesterday that I might be assigned to Offit AFB, Nebraska instead of San Antonio TX. The nearest drag strip in NE is about 1.5 hrs away. That sucks!

Flink,
$250 for a 454 shortblock is a pretty good deal indeed. I'm still recovering from the $700 for the Elky brakes, the $100 for the Elky inner fender, the Nova caper..... I sold the spare core 12-bolt.Surprisingly, the wrecked PT fetched a nice amount and sold right away....I still have the set of 781s that I'll take 80 for, they are listed on C-L.....
I gotta get the vinyl top off the Elky, windows out, renew of metal then get her back together before summer is out.....back window leaks,,,

GOTAGO,
Isn't ALL of NEB a dragstrip?
Don't AFBs have runways?
Do the RIGHT THING, drop that RETIRMENT PACKET and stay HERE!

Not much going on over here. Getting ready to go to a buddys wedding. Got my new cam and lifters in the '70 thurseday and broke it in last night, all went well so it's back to daily driver status. Good thing too, I start my new job in three weeks and won't have a company vehicle for the first time in 8 years.

Remember I have no children and my wife is used to it (or at least knows how to take care of herself) No worries.

We are a Nation and Army at war. When its over or at least until I feel that I can no longer be useful, I'm gone. Until then, no. Maybe I can bring a few kids back with me.

The bad part of it is that I have found friends here that I really enjoy hanging out with.

I suppose I want you to stay here the selfish reason of not having yet another friend move away, especially tough when it is a soldier-gearhead.
Maybe I just like your car....:p
I'm really not sure what critical position there is in the middle of Nebraska...IMHO, seems like oblivion.:boring:

B-day party for the daughters' b-friends last PM so not a freeking thing done on my projects

Can't find the proper parts for the 5/8 flare on the Carter and my stupid rims stick out too far with my slicks. I have just brought home a pair of 10 x 15 Centerlines and I'll see how they fit...

Frank, i had to get a brass fitting, and a chunk of rubber hose to make Mine work.

I got My Cowl Induction hoses re-routed today, and fabbed up a bracket for My catch can. Just gotta hook up My safety switch, and I should be good to go.

Got RatVette's S plugs in, vacuumed the interior, damp towel wipe-down....gettin her ready for a little show-n-tell with Mr GOTAGO this week.
No time for final timing check.....can't wait to drive her and find out....

I may get off early tomorrow....got that inner fender to install on Elky.
Also seems I may have a deal on a tilt-floorshift steering column...

Nothin' more frustrating than stuff not bolting together, progress held up by the tool you need being on the shelf at the store....

So how about a 4 3/8"ish bolt pattern???? Mopar maybe. I think the race gods are working against me on this one. I do have 1 of the 10" rims on and it's friggin' tight up there. Who knows, I might be looking for an 8" slick here before too long...:sad::sad:

You should be able to get a different offset. 10" slick's out to fit.

I went out to get the safety switch wired, got almost done, then need two wire ends. Of course they are the only size I don't have on hand.

I am running 15X10" wheels out back with 5" of backspacing. The optimal backspacing is 5 1/2, so I decided to run 30X9" slicks. The fit fine with the original wheel wells. But I clearanced them out and have plunty of room.

I was going to say, alittle more backspace should pull them in some.

flink69SS
Jul 2nd, 07, 1:14 AM
These Centerlines have 5" of backspacing and that's putting the inside of the rim about a 1/4 away from the lower shock bolt. Remember, I have a shorter 66 rear end. I am sure the tire will fit with about a half inch to spare. I don't know if I'll have it worked out by Friday. Not sure if I'll run again on my Sportsman or not...:sad:

Modications...
It's a street car...;)
The only rear mods I have are Hotchkis 1" lowering springs, Edelbrock Performer AIF(or something like that) Shocks and boxed lowers.

Does anyone know how easy (or hard)it is to swap out for longer lug bolts???

FRYNTYR
Jul 2nd, 07, 11:25 AM
Frank,

As long as the lug has room between the backing plate and axle,,no problem. One must knock the old ones out then slide the new ones in through the holes until the knurl is ready to pull in. The knurled part is the only bugger to getting these in. I usually put some press fit lubricant on the bolts to help them go in. Then use a stackup of washer or something els to use as spacers and use the lug nut to pull the lug back into the axle.

I don't think there is room to slide 3" bolts in but you can check that before pulling any of your old lugs out. If they don't fit one must remove the axles to do it. If you were to remove the axles i would recommend a axle upgrade when you do it for future strength. Yukon axles stronger than stock and reasonably priced at Randy's. I have the Yukon replacements in my Nova.

The Yukons have both the stock lug holes and threaded 1/2 holes, which is what I used.

How much longer studs do You need? It's real easy as Darryl said, Iff'n You do gotta slid the axle out, that's no big deal either. Heck, bring it up this coming weekend, It'd take bout and hour and a half.

I keep hearing if you run slicks you need to have the lug bolt so far out past the wheel. I do not know how long my current ones are I would need about another inch. As for that stupid fuel pump with them AR fittings...fooie..
I picked up a Carter from Jim Greens that has normal pipe threads. It is only pushing 127 gpm's or so but that should be enough.

Dave
Jul 2nd, 07, 8:11 PM
Yeah, it was kinda a bitch, But I got it done. If You use more then 127 GPH, you won't be able to afford to drive the car anyway.:D

FRYNTYR
Jul 2nd, 07, 9:12 PM
Frank, 127 is more than enough. I don't even run that much on the welfare nova. Will try and call you tomorrow to drop off wheels/tires if you still want to use the wheels.

Your 1/4" from the rim to the shock mount is enough. If it was the tire then I'd make more room. The rim and shock mount won't increase or decrease in distance. My shock mount may be even closer than that on my chevelle so you're fie there if you have the rims redrilled.
