My 498 build up is at the balancing stage. These cranks are supposed to be internal balanced.
Can I expect any problems?
I bought the standard weight crank, Manley Sportmaster I beam rods and SRP pistons.
My builder says sometimes aftrmarket cranks can be a nightmare.
Thanks,
Ron

I am running the standard stroke 4340 Forged Steel BBC Scat Crank recomended by my engine builder.
He did the balancing for me, and loved it. Running Ross Forged Pistons, H-Beam 4340 Scat Rods also. He does a dynamic balance with everything.
Only compliant he had was the crank was hard...took like 3 hours to drill the balancing holes...but I guess thats a good thing :D

Sounds like he has the same kind of drill bits that I have! :D

Ron,
YOu never know .... just finished a "supposedly" internal balance Ford crank for a customer ..... 6 slugs of Heavy Metal later ... It's internally balanced.

That was exactly what my guy showed me, a Ford SB stroker crank with a $1500 balance job.....
About 5 slugs of mallory metal in the end 2 counterweights........

Ron,
If it is a 6.385 crank with a reasonable piston weight it will balance internally with no weight.
I usually end up turning the counterweights down in the lathe to get the weight down so it only takes a couple of holes & doesn't look like crap with lighter parts.

I'm running the Scat 6.385 internally balanced lightweight crank in my 509. Nice crank, but I did need a couple of small slugs of mallory on the back counterweight, and a bit taken off the front to balance out. This was with Scat 6.8" H beams and SRP mini dome 10.25 pistons. With the 6.385 rods, mallory probably isn't needed.
