: Pypes Exhaust Installed
SleeperBBC May 26th, 04, 2:39 PM I just got back from Pro Muffler in Peoria AZ to have my 2.5 inch Pypes X-pipe and tailpipes installed. I used Dynomax Ultra Flow welded for mufflers. I got the mufflers from Jegs cause Pypes was out of stock. I am very happy with the quality of the pypes. James at Pro Muffler said the tails fit very well. If anyone in Phoenix needs exhaust work done, go there. James knows what he is doing and asks the you how you want it done. He spent a good amount of time just to get the tips perfect.
Its sounds very nice and smooth. Not very loud but great tone. It will probably get a little louder when the Ultraflo's break in. I also ordered repop SS tips from Parts depot for $56 to my door. They look great and I dont think $100 is worth it for GM's. Only complaint is Pypes took a full week to process my order and another week to ship. I hope they can get that in order.
Anyway, here are some pics.

Ccass May 27th, 04, 12:21 AM sleeper, You caught us right in the middle of some major warehouse changes that slowed us down all Spring. We are pretty much back on track now.
Pat Kelley May 27th, 04, 2:07 AM I'm really happy with my UltraFlows. I have the 2-1/2" also.
mr 4 speed May 27th, 04, 7:30 AM Looks great..I'm sure it sounds awesome graemlins/thumbsup.gif
..doesn't Pypes use Flowmaster tailpipes for their systems?
GRN69CHV May 27th, 04, 8:19 AM Just curious, what hangers did they use at the mufflers. I used the stock style on my '69 which truthfully are made for 2-1/4" tails. I had to modify the hangers to get them to work with the 2-1/2" tails (from Pypes also) and they are sitting a little too tight to the frame. I am getting a little bit of rattle at idle. This is with Dynomax Hemi Turbos.
SleeperBBC May 27th, 04, 12:11 PM Ccass, good to know about the restructuring. Still worth the wait.
The hangers where custom from the previous exhaust. I know I put a 2.5 on my grand prix with stock hangers and it rattled too. Take it to a reputable shop to straighten it out. Its amazing the kinds of things muffler guy can do with something simple like exhaust.
BigBlockBeaumont May 27th, 04, 1:33 PM I also just got my X-pipe kit from Pypes and am putting it together with Summit Turbos, just using turndowns at this time.
Hoping to have it together on Sat. My only complaint was that Pypes told me to use offset/offset mufflers, but I'd have been better off with offset/center. I'll have to relocate my current hangers outward 2" per side (not major)to accomodate.
mr 4 speed May 27th, 04, 2:10 PM The reason to use offset/offset is so you can hook tailpipes up..hooking full size tailpipes up to center outlet mufflers is a PITA and usually doesn't work out well, unless the leadpipes are slightly angled outwards.

"I heard it..I heard it... I heard it on the the X.."!
BigBlockBeaumont May 29th, 04, 5:48 PM Got the system installed, sounds great. Compliments all evening out cruising the hot spots.

Aaron Kelley May 30th, 04, 1:35 AM I'd have to agree with Pat. His exhaust sounds really nice! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
BigBlockBeaumont May 30th, 04, 8:45 PM Rm, considering my old system was 2 1/4" with stock mufflers, and 2" tails it certainly was a huge improvement.
