I do them for several companies. What do you want to know? $250-$350 for a standard appraisal. $500 for a full on, no holds barred, partial dis-assembly may be required, inspection. Number reserch, etc.

Not a formal appraisal person but there's a member of this site that knows more about '66 Chevelles than just about anyone. He does searches & evaluations for people. Drop him a line.... www.mysterychevelle.com

I think you have a lot more homework to do before you involve an appraiser.

1. Absolutely decide what you want.
2. Drown yourself in cars for sale all over the country. Know in your mind why a 4speed brings more than an auto and how much. Same goes for real or unreal, color, location, etc.
3. As you focus in post the car here. I have been buying these cars for 30+ years and these guys spot things every time I miss. You will not believe what you will learn for free. Mike and Dale will rip every 66/67 you show apart as they are so purist inclined. Usually they will lowball an average car but with their help and if you develop patience the right car at the right price will come along. Understand every remark you get here is intended to help not critize or demean. Do not get offended.
4. Do not be afraid to overpay if it is everything want. If you pay too much for the right car over time it will still be the cheapest hobby you can enjoy.
Many times we let the "right" car slip by because of a few thousand dollars and never see one like it again.
5. Buy what you want without the influence of others. In the end you will be the only one held accountable.

Good luck. You are in good hands here.

Thanks John, Jimmy and Mark.. I appreciate the vote of confidence!

I just received and responded to an email from Kirk and reiterated some of the same great advice John just gave, the biggest being PATIENCE followed by more PATIENCE! and a small reminder that the budget almost always has to be more than what you really think you want to spend .. just a Fact! ;)

Thanks for the advise. This is the first web site where I have really felt welcome. I am getting ready to take the plunge for the car of my dreams.
I have always wanted a '66 Chevelle.
With the prices I am seeing I feel that a builder may suit me better. I am not sure about purchasing a car site unseen on the internet. I had the chance to look at a car that was on ebay before the bidding ended and boy was that a major disappointment, I don't know how people could be so untruthful.
I thought I would be able to find a daily driver to work on as I go.
I was in the middle of building a 1982 Toyota 4x4 when my current daily driver was stolen from infront of my house

Anyway thanks, Kirk
