Hi everyone! I have a restored numbers matching 1969 L78. I was told from the previous owner that it used to have a colume shift and a bench seat. My question is, how can you tell for sure - because if this is the case I want to get it back to the original. I know that it had parchment interior and the original invoice states that the 1st owner was female - so I kind of believe him? Thanks for your help.

Get the numbers/letters from the second line of the cowl tag and post them here.

The TR790 means it originally had a Parchment vinyl bench seat. If it had an automatic it would've had to be on the column. The 52 52 means it had Garnet Red paint with no vinyl or other color painted top (that was also an option).

Thank you! Did the L78 have a special colume shifter? If so, what was it or what are the particulars I should know when shopping for one? Are they numbered?

Not that I'm aware of. It would be the same as any other '69 automatic on the column and of course the dash indicator would be for a 3 speed automatic. All '69 SS steering columns were black.
